gift certificate to Victorias Secret...is she a smart ***? or am I reading into this too much?

She wears alot of things from Victorias Secret and Fredericks, I am just so confused

Well there are two answers to this question, one the slightly paranoid one which could very well be, or misc. answer.
Paranoid-She's scared that you bought her a Victoria's Secret gift card and she thinks you expect her to get sexy lingerie and for of course, you to view it. So she chalks it up to being a joke and "haha would you be insulted if I spent this somewhere else?"
Misc. Answer, She really doesn't like Victoria's Secret and is uncomfortable with the idea that you gave her something that she's not going to use. Give her credit for coming to you instead of saying nothing at all.
The thing that determines which is which: Knowing whether or not she liked VS before you bought her the gift card. How many things does your girlfriend have from Victoria's Secret? That will be the answer to your question.

Your reading too much into it. People exchange gifts all the time. Victoria Secret is not for every woman.

She doesn't sound too bright. I mean, Victoria's Secret sells everything from everyday bras to robes to body lotion. What *couldn't* she find there? It's not like she *has* to buy lingerie...And I'm not sure you can return a gift certificate, anyway...

I think that Victoria's Secret is a MAN'S favorite store. Not a woman's.

maybe she just doesn't feel that you and her have been going out long enough to warrant you giving her a gift certificate for Victoria's Secret......you should talk to her about it, see what she says

Maybe she needs the money for something else. If she frequently shops there, then maybe she's trying to avoid spending more money there.

Why would she ask you that? After you give your girl something they dont usually say anything like that unless they have a reason to. Did she not like it? Maybe some girls are affraid to shop there...

You may be reading to much into it, but for your own sanity ask her why she is returning it..it might clear up anything you may be doubting.
