Why is it, when people translate the anthem to show their allegiance to the US, they are criticized for it?

It translates the original version as well as it can possibly be translated, why are people making a big deal about it? Or if you are not making a big deal, what do you think of the song?

I am refering to the Spanish version of the National Anthem of the United States of America.

Arent alot of books and poems translated into other languages?

The people that hung the flag upside-down below the Mexican flag, are not necessarily the same people that translated the anthem.

I dont think that illegal immigrants had much to do with the translation of the nation anthem, if refering to a previous question, Illegal immigrants do pay taxes and cannot get a tax return, most do pay for their ER bills, and they ALL should NEVER be turned away for a emergency. If there were other doctors that would help them with minor ailments then they wouldnt need to go to the ER and shell out all that extra money. I am not calling anyone a "bad person", just that illegal immigrants shouldnt be held responsible for your wait in the ER, and YOU should not be held responsible for the bill of ANYONE that does not pay their bill, that is on the Hospital!

A lot of people think that English is the only acceptable language of the US. So when people translate it, they get angry. Some people are just really ignorant.

A new low.. a British guy changes the words of the national anthem and gets some minor celebrities to sing.and add a tacky lil rap in there , Sure he wants everybody to play it a certain time,,, hmmm that should make him some bank. or so he thought

This is the most disrespectful act yet. . Let that British record producer try to record God Save the Queen in arabic to welcome all the immigrants in the UK .


The national anthem is a sacred thing that should never be changed from the original. It represents americans and no one else from any other country but the land of the free. Even if you come to live here it does not give you the right to change our costums to fit your wants.

There have been Spanish versions of the Star Spangled Banner for a long time, actually.

However, the version Kidron came up with, that started this furor, was a two part release including doggerel verses about 'these cruel laws' and degrading the anthem into a pro-illegal immigrant theme song. That plus the American flag flown upside down at a high school under the Mexican flag, plus the marches with signs like "this is Our Continent" and "we are in our homeland" plus real if possibly marginal involvement of the MEChA group created a nasty taste in people's mouths.

You are free to sing what you like, but people are free to take offense, as well.

I don't mind the direct translations unless they are being presented as a "Spanish first" declaration. If they are, it is the National Anthem being used as an anti-American culture theme song, in my opinion.

Because they(ILLEGAL immigrants, not ALL immigrants)don't want to be American, they just want America. And they want Americans to foot their bills. Out of line? I don't think so. I am a good husband and father and not the bad man you obviously think I am. My next-door neighbors are LEGAL Mexicans, and they're good friends, my workplace is about as diverse as you can get, and my employer of ten years is a Cuban expatriate. I'm not anti-Hispanic, but my blood certainly boils when one of my children has to wait for hours in an ER for a real medical emergency because she's behind a pool of illegal aliens using it for free primary care. I bear you no ill will and I sincerely hope no one you love ever has to face multiple disabilities as my youngest daughter does every day. At least my wife and I have been paying into the system since the Seventies. I thought it WAS for Americans like my daughter. My wife and I both work opposite hours so we can take care of the kids. Our insurance doesn't even begin to cover "A"'s care. We've depleted our savings. Our college fund for the kids is gone. We're busting our butts and driving ten year-old cars now, just to keep the house. We had a county official tell us that our daughter could get better help with her medical expenses if my wife and I got divorced! Yeah, I'm out of line.

Americans are supposed to speak English. When applying for citizenship, it is a requirement that they can speak English. The anthem was written ENGLISH for AMERICANS. One nation, Under God and all of the other stuff that you have heard a lot here. I don't thinkn El Presidente Fox would appreciate us translating the Mexican anthem into English.

The big deal is: It is just another way those who refuse to pledge total allegiance to America are chipping away at our basic way of life. It makes me mad!

Tradition is why it doesnt mean the same thing. The problem people see is that you goto the any government office and all documents are in different languages. All our ancesters came from somewhere else and took pride in learning english. I know families from Germany that made sure they learned english.

because national anthems are usually sung in the language of that country. "God Save The Queen" wouldn't work in French, like "Deutchland Uber Alles" wouldn't sound right in Russian. The "Star Spangled Banner" should be sung in English.

This is my opinion and not intended to slight immigrants, however as the saying goes, "When in Rome..."

To translate is to use the exact words/meaning and allow others who speak a different language to understand the original written/spoken word.

This "translation" is a farce. It says things that the original song does not say. It is a slap in the face.
