about once or twice a month...my cat just lies down in a comfortable position and has these "trembles". its like a body shiver for 2 secs and then stops...and starts again...he does this for like 5 mins...it doesnt seem to bother him at all though...like if he gets distracted by something hell just get up and leave...what do you think it is?

I disagree, if your cat is neither sleeping nor purring, and he's having seizure-like convusions, i would consult with a vet. I wouldn't consider this normal behavior unless a vet says otherwise. And if nothing else, your cat will get a checkup. Next time your cat has these behaviors, I would observe carefully so you can accurately describe the behavior to the vet. Good luck!

Is he purring while it happens? I've had cats that purred so hard they trembled! Or maybe it's just a way of relieving tension, or he could have itchy skin, or it could be a nervous habit, like when a person taps a pencil on the desk. Have you checked for fleas or anything else that could be irritating him?

Yes it's very normal, all animals do this they twitch, make all kinds of body movements they're dreaming. Usually you will hear whining, growling, moruning & all kinds of noises.

Some don't do it. Some do

Just like us we talk in our sleeps, or walk in our sleeps etc

if he is sleeping its ok they are dreaming just like humans do but if your cat is completely awake and alert and then starts convulsing then take him to a doctor
