I'm a registered nurse and I would suggest that he go to a doctor and have a MRI and Xray of the lump and go from there. If the test are negative then it could just be a cyst or an infected hair bump that needs to be drained. Just see a doctor asap to avoid futher complications.

Like a hunch back? Just kidding, is it like a muscle spasm? Or more of a swelling? If it doesn't go away I would for sure get it checked out. It is probably nothing.

He should go to the Dr. to get it checked out. It's probably o.k. but it's better to know for sure.
My brother-in-law has had these for years and they were always fine but last week we discovered on of them are cancerous. So it's best to have it checked.

It means he need to see his doctor and get it evaluated. It could be a cancer tumor, and putting it off would mean less of a chance to have it successfully treated.

it may be a tumor... i know someone who has a lump on her back for years... she didn't mind it, until eventually it grew larger... good thing, she visited her doctor before it worsened...

i would suggest going to the doctor. if it is anything serious it is best to find out now and take whatever necessary to get him better. hope all is well

sounds like a cyst, but you should have it looked at, especially if it changes in size, or color
