I read an article about window tint on driver's side window and it said something about models made 1998 or older were exempt but by Jan 1, 2008, the exemptions expires and all tint must be removed. I own a 1997 dodge ram for 5 yrs & just NOW got pulled over 4 having tinted driver side window. I cannot find the article I had read about the tint exemptions. I also purchased this truck from an authorized car dealership, so if this is so illegal, do they have the right to sell this to me? Need some advice... oh, I am in Illinois. TIA........

It makes a difference where you live, but the website below had a listing for various states including Illinois. If the information is correct, you may need to make a change right away. If the dates are correct that this began in 1998 then the dealer may be liable. I would at the least go back and ask them what kind of deal they could make on removing it and take the rules with you to try and leverage no cost to you.

In 2007 your exemptions won't matter because regardless of eye deasease you must have the tint removed on the window.

However until then if you have a specific eye deasease you can get an exemption. I don't remember what the desase is but you probably can find it in wikkipedia.

By the way...I am from Chicago and my sons just got off of a Tinted Windows Charge.
