Hey thank you to all those who helped me, I ended up getting a 2001 pontiac grand am, for a nice price. I would love to have had a honda or a mazda or toyota, but this car seems to be great.

there are websites that you can access, where you can type in the car's serial number and it will give you some information on the car. For example, if the car has ever been in an accident, or if the miles have ever been tempered with. Can't remember what the website was, but I used it and felt the better for it.

I would also ask around from neighbors or friends if they know someone who is trying to sell their car. Sometimes people you know will know of someone who has taken good care of their car, and what type of condition it might be.

Good luck :-)

toyota's are also good, check that it doesn't use a lot of gas... check out websites before you buy...

take your time, research makes/models that you're interested in, visit a few dealerships and talk to the salesmen. you can check the VIN number on sites such as carfax.com to see if the car's been in any accidents or anything like that.
