Most definitely!! Have you ever noticed what happens to children right after you feed them? They get an immense amount of energy!! Also at our elementary school the Kindergarten kids get an afternoon recess, right before they go home. It helps with the bus ride home and is right after snack, again with the food thing. Our 1st graders get a morning recess, they eat snack on the playground. They need it to help them concentrate on the rest of their morning work.
Kids truly need to have that down-time, they would go stir crazy if they didn't have it. My daughter in 3rd grade complains that they only have one recess, and she is right, her teacher lets them have an afternoon stretch outside near the classroom. She has a wonderful teacher!

Of course it is. The kids need a break from sitting and a time to have fun so they can go back refreshed and ready for the next block of learning. The social aspect of school is also so important. If there was no recess the classes would start to get very disruptive, just ask any teacher on a rainy day where the kids havn't gotten out to run off that excess energy

Yes, because if they dont get out to have at least a 10 minute break they will start to behave badly and will have to be sent home. That would make parents mad and they would change schools or something like that. So having elementary school kids have recess would be a good thing a bad.

I think recess is necessary for all ages. Physical activity improves cardiovascular function and mental acuity in most people. You take this away and you end up with wandering minds. I know when I play soccer, I think more about how I can do better the next game. What does a kid do who doesn't run around think about? How to conquer some video game which could end up being some sort of reality comparison? I digress. Recess = good.

children do not have long attention spans about a minute for every year old they are, as far as i know. they need time to release some energy so they are more likely to pay attention. of course as you get older your attention span increases but children get very antsy if they have to sit still for too long. Thats also a good reason for art, music, and gym class. it keeps them mentally stimulated and physically active. Teachers also use recess as an incentive, a lot of teachers will make students who havent finished work stay in, or those who havent behaved stay too. I think it is necessary.

Yes. Exercise is one reason. Kids dont get enough of it as it is. Another is to expel some of that energy they always have so they can concentrate in class. I had recess every day as a kid but nowadays they only have it once or twice a week.

Yes, I have a 9 year old going into fourth grade, and I'm sure that if he wasn't allowed to get outside and blow of steam during the day, then the teacher's would be calling me everyday, about bad behavior. Young children, cannot be expected to sit still in a desk for 6 hours a day. That would be unrealistic.

I believe that kids, especially elementary school age, need the physical and mental relief that recess brings them. Also, it teaches them how to interact with one another without an adult forcing them to interact as well as resolving conflicts that often occur on the playground.

Yeppers, they need a mental & physical break. Those chairs aren't that comfy & the same person talking for hours starts to sound like the teacher on Charlie Brown. **Wahh wahh wahh wahh* :)
I think that the recess is for the teachers too...They would probably pull all their hair out if they didn't...teehee

Definitely yes. Kids can only sit and work for so long and then they need to get up and play and run so that they can concentrate for the rest of the day.
