Apples are actually very good for dogs and help to keep their teeth clean. Dependent on the size of your dog, you may want to cut the apple into pieces or at least remove the apple core.

I would remove the core of the apple. Dogs do have a taste for sweets and an apple wont hurt your dog. Never give your dogs grapes however, they are quite poisionous.

Apple seeds are toxic (contain cyanide), but the fruit should be fine. Cut the apple in slices for your dog, and maybe remove the peel.

I often give my black lab small pieces of cut up apple. She loves it. The vet tells me this is a much healthier snack than giving her a dog treat, which is akin to a snickers bar for a human. Carrots are also one of her favorites, as well as cherry tomatoes.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are not bad for your dog, in fact it is better treats than your store bought doggy treats. I feed mine fresh fruits and vegetables, along with the raw diet. Believe this or not the raw diet, and fresh fruit and veggies are better for your dog than the store bought doggy food.
