"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." It is a phrase that we do not often here, yet it is genesis of the earth and the genesis of us. You may be wondering "Why are we created?" Some people would say from an anthropocentric view (from man's perspective), "we have been reborn to grow up in Christ and to become more like Him." While some one may say from a theocentric view (from God's perspective), "We have been reborn to glorify God." The conclusion is we are to glorify God by growing up and becoming like Christ. It says in Ephesians 2:8-10, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no on can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

I think Pancake's got the cutest answer...

But if I were to offer a serious answer, I'd have to say that, if God DID create human beings (I'm agnostic), my guess would be that...well, what's the one thing that an all-knowing God can't experience? What it's like not to know something. And what do we, as humans, find to be one of the most exhilarating things? To discover and explore the unknown. So maybe he wanted to experience, through us, what it's like to discover, to know what we once did not know.

Just my thoughts...

My belief is that God created us with a free will to have someone love Him because they choose to, not made to.
The Bible says that you are created by and for God's pleasure.

For His pleasure.

Luke 12:32
Ephesians 1:5
Philippians 2:13

Let me expand on that.
Have you experienced the joy of having a child run up to you, give you a big hug, and tell you they love you?
Enough said.

He/she was bored playing with the cosmos one day so he/she created some stupid creatures who would debate his existence and claim to be his/her favorite people and declare wars, burn innocent women and torture non-believers. Just a big prankster, that creator of ours!

I can't say, but I can guess......

I think he divided himself into us, forgot who he was, and began to seek to re-know himself...... by living as us.....

But God being a he isn't quite accurate.
