Because not everyone in the world has the same taste. I bet just because you and I like Harry Potter...we like different music, hang out with different people, eat different foods, and maybe even study different things. If everyone were the same the world would be boring but sorry to hear that he won't even talk to you over Harry Potter...maybe if you bring up something else like music or other movies and books you like to him you'll find things that you both like.

Why are you worried about someone hating you because of a book that you like? This is clearly not someone whose opinion you need to worry about.

Most people who don't like Harry Potter are just not well-informed enough to understand the literary quality of the Harry Potter books. If you want to have discussions with people who really understand this, go to Mugglenet. You will find a lot of people who share your opinions on the books.

Propaganda. Fear. Ignorance. I could go on for days. He most likely heard that it teaches people "witchcraft" without ever reading the books themselves to find out. They give general arguments about it in that light, yet offer absolutely no proof of what they say. Other people, who are as easily driven as they are, hear this and spread even more ignorance.
I once met a Pastor who claimed that in one of the Harry Potter books it gave details on how to summon major demons. *sigh* When asked exactly where it was at, he couldn't answer. They can never answer and they won't answer unless it's with a "You'll be going to hell for reading a book about witchcraft". These people really aren't worth getting upset over. It's they who remain ignorant.

Does he have a crush on you? -- Possible, so I had to ask.

Otherwise, everybody hates something. Don't be too bothered by it. Read your wonderful book and skip along down the hallway! Thumbs up for Harry Potter.

People hate Harry Potter because it is a geeky thing to like. It is a book of witchcraft.

I used to resent the books due to the fact that I suggestion they might be particularly nerdy and mideval-themed, however a couple of years after the fourth guide got here out, I began studying the sequence and I particularly preferred it. I learned that it wasn't dorky in any respect, it was once good written, and it wasn't mideval in any respect. If you are judging the sequence through the films, I advise you check out studying the books. They're WAY bigger than the films, and the films are not very correct. They exhibit a likeness among Ron and Hermione WAY too early, they difference scenes round, and many others.

I answered this in another question:

It is because of hearsay. Some bible thumper hears it has witchcraft, so he/she decides it's evil. The thumper tells all their little thumperette friends, who tell the thumpinas, and one of those thumpinas decides to make a name for themselves on the back of someone else's (in this case J.K. Rowlings) work, and decries how evil it is and it should be banned. The thumper, thumperettes, and the thumpinas think it sounds like fun and start taking up the war cry.
It is hard to fool with LOTR or C.S. Lewis because they're "classics." It doesn't sound like much fun, maybe the thumpernites will do those

Because Christian fundies think that the Harry Potter books have something to do with witchcraft. Which just goes to prove they don't know anything about witchcraft.

I don't hate harry potter but i do not like what is written in the books. it's about witch craft. in your eyes it may be so called good witch craft but in my eyes and i believe that in Jesus eyes witch craft is witch craft. there is no such things as good or bad. it's bad - plain and simple.
