is it's hair already long or does it take a few months to get long?

We have a puppy and we think that the daddy is a cocker spaniel, but so far the puppy has short hair. I'm just wondering if it takes a few months for the hair to get long.

All puppies, regardless of breed are born with short hair. If they are the off-spring of long hair parents they will develope the full coat after several months.
You can usually tell that they are going to be long coat after about 2 months, especially if some of the babies in the litter are going to be short coat.

Many dog breeds including Cocker Spaniels do not get their full adult coat until around a year of age-picture it this way most humans do not have long flowing hair when born.Look up on the net pictures of newborn dogs even Collies and shelties do not have long hair-it will take time and before you know you will be at the groomers every 8-10 weeks grooming that pretty coat.

Yes, it takes a little while for the full hair coat to come in. Just a few months I believe.
