The way i have learned arabic is by listening to music, then finding the translations on the net. My husband has taught my a lot because arabic is his first language. He is from iraq. So learning has been very beneficial so this way i can communicate with his family in iraq, and most do not speak english.

A lot of westerners think arabic is hard to learn...and it is somewhat difficult. First, theres a different dialect for pretty much every arab country. (gulf countries have the same dialect--countries like tunisia, morroco, and algeria are also similar). However, everyone in the middle east only writes in formal arabic, and everyone understands each other that way. Writing arabic is tricky since it there are many letters that dont have an english equivalent, and it might be hard to pronounce them. Lastly, understanding the meanings of phrases could be difficult. We use a lot of figurative language and metaphors. So, when u translate from arabic into english, it might sound weird.

Overall, u gotta be real determined to learn it all the way and not get unmotivated if it becomes too difficult. But definatly go for it!! You'll be soo happy you learned it beacuse it opens up the doors to the arab culture, which is extremely interesting!

Good Luck!!

it is difficult since the written Arabic is different from the spoken (so you basically have to learn two languages) and there are so many dialects in the Arab world that if you learn the Lebanese Arabic, for example, that doesn't mean you can converse with an Algerian or a Saudi. but it all depends on how bad you wanna learn. good luck!

Like most languages, the detailed grammatical rules
are difficult, but most speaher of Arabis ignore them,
in much the same way as most English speakers don't
speak exact grammatically-correct English.

I'd say, unless you're planning on speaking or reading
Classical Arabic texts (like the Quran), then you can
just learn the language without going into too much
detail into it's UBER-complex grammatical rules (which
are way more complicated than English's).

Also, ofcourse, be prepared for the gendered verbs
and nouns. So, in English you'd say "You Ate" for
both man and woman, men and women. But in Arabic
there is a "You ate" for a man, one for a woman, one for
men, and one for women.

Same for "they...".

I went to morocco and also was attracted to the arabic language and its actually very easy to speak and to write you just have to learn the alphabet of strange words. After you do this, it works great and hey, well, YOU'LL KNOW ARABIC!!!!:)

Well, I actually know how to read arabic. It takes a while, but it gets easier once you know the basics. Once you can read it, you can try understanding it, but I'm not quite that far yet.
