My four year old black lab is laying on the floor wincing. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but his belly is bloated. I took him outside and he wouldn't chase his ball which is not normal. He had some trouble going up and down stairs tonight....he has lime disease, but we caught it early so it shouldn't be a factor...he has farted a few times and it is really stinky, but I keep taking him outside and he won't do his business. Any thoughts?

Thanks to all who answered...we took him to the emergency vet care center...they took x-rays and he has eaten too much...apparently he got into a fresh 40 pound bag of dog food...the vet said that Buca had his own personal thanksgiving today. His stomach had not "flipped", but could have easily. So long story short (and $178 later)...Buca is on the road to recovery...no food for Tuesday and half portions on Wednesday. Thanks again...I had no idea bloat even existed.

Have you ever fed him any kind of chicken bones? if so you might want to have that checked out. Does he go poo outside? if not he might have a splinter from a chicken bone caught and it will have to be removed by a vet. Im not sure if thats the problem but it might be something to check out. maybe he ate something he shouldnt have,,,take him to the vet before it is too late. When i was younger i had a lab that had the same problem and she had to get scraped out by the vet because the bone was lodged sideways and blocking her intestines. it is extremely painful to them too.

You needed to have your dog seen by a veterinarian when you first noticed this instead of asking a question like this here. If this is bloat, your dog is in trouble. It could also be a gastric torsion which is also emergent.

If he's wincing, that probably means he's in pain. I know some dogs can "bloat" from eating too much, and it can be very dangerous to them. Please call your vet and explain his symptoms and let the vet guide you through this. Good luck.
