My friend thinks that if you live more then 40 miles away from the court then you can be excused from jurty duty and I was just curious if that rule still exists. Thanks.

No such rule. If you live in the jurisdiction, you can be called. Most juries are at the county level and only a few counties are that large anyway. For Federal courts, you may have to travel hundreds of miles though they often provide transportation.

When you are called for jury duty, the paperwork will explain the reasons that you can be excused. You still have to show up on the first day and plead your case with the judge. Bring proof; without it you will NOT be excused.

That isn't true. The only way you can get out of jury duty is if you are physically limited for some reason,as in handicapped or in a wheelchair or if you are pregnant or nursing a baby.

If you live in the county, they do not care where you serve on jury duty. Some counties are larger than others but we can't move to be exempt from jury duty.

I doubt it, you are within the limits of the jury duty roster, you will be expected to serve.
