by not letting him no how you feel it defeats your purpose. just be who you are, be friendly and make eye contact all the time. don't be scared even if he doesn't like you you've lost nor gained anything. invite him along with a group that way its not so personal and you can make out you were just being friendly and nothing more. good luck

just tell him
if you;re scared at people laughing at you just stick a note in his locker and arrange a private meeting place at a certain time.

why wouldn't you want him to know? It's kind of hard to show someone you like them and you don't want them to know about it!
