I have practiced the GR, but not in a group setting. It was a private ceremony between my lover and me. He is pagan as well, so on Beltaine night, we went out to a place where we usually go, cast a circle, called the corners, and engaged in the rite.

It was beautiful. You could really feel the magick all around. When we joined, and climaxed, it was like our two souls becoming one; I was able to feel what he was feeling, and vice-versa.

The GR is not something to be done lightly. If you don't have love and trust between you and your partner, you won't be able to handle the feelings and powers the GR creates.

The Great Rite is a beautiful thing. I feel sorry for people who aren't able to understand it.

You should know that Wicca embraces many traditions. I was initiated over 20 years ago, and yet I do not recall a practice that would be abbreviated GR. It may be something that I do or have done, but call it by a different name. Or it may be something I have never done.

Yes, with my husband but in private on Beltane. Did a balefire jumping with others drank alot of wine and spent the rest of the night by ourselves honoring the joining of the God and Goddess.

Not an answer to your question - but I find this interesting. Union of a man and a woman. The two becoming one flesh. This is the Christian ideal of marriage :) Very cool!

perhaps the question refers to the Great Rite... when a priestess of the goddess is given to the Horned God at Beltane...
