My fiance says that I'm going to make a whole heck of a lot of people angry "because you are supposed to wear white" for your first wedding. Is that true? Are there any superstitions associated with wearing Ivory instead of White?

No it's not wrong! Ivory is a perfectly normal and beautiful color for a wedding dress. I personally picked Ivory because we are marrying in the fall, and our ceremony and reception will be kind of dim as it is in the evening. Nowadays the bride has the freedom to do almost anything with the wedding. You should pick your dress based on how YOU feel, and how YOU want the wedding to go. All that superstitious stuff is a little outdated if you ask me!

You can wear what the heck ever you want. The origins of the white wedding dress have nothing to do with innocence and purity. Queen Victoria wore a lavish white wedding dress, and then it became all the rage. Since back then only the fabulously rich could afford a white dress which would soil easily and couldn't be worn often it was all about flaunting their wealth. Only during this century has it become the western custom to associate the white wedding dress with virginity and purity, and even up till the 40s and 50s many women wore their best skirt suit or a dress that would then become their Sunday best as their wedding attire.
I don't think there are any superstitions about wearing ivory instead of white, and frankly many brides (virginal or not) choose it over white because not every skin tone can pull off an all-white ensemble.

Ivory is a beautiful color for a wedding gown. If you already have kids and such people know your not a virgin so who cares? Ivory is just off white anyway.
If you love the dress than go for it girlie!

Whether your dress is white, ivory or champagne, or pink, or any other color, it doesn't matter any more. It's all about what dress looks best on you and your skin tone. Lots of brides look best in an ivory dress because it is so much softer than white.

My husband and I got married on 05/06/06 and I wore a white dress. Wear what YOU believe is best. I don't believe in all that superstitious stuff. Good luck and congratulations!

You can wear whatever color you want too! It is traditional to wear white, because it means innocence and a virgin....maybe he hasn't told all of his family you are having sex...or if you are not...maybe he will think that you are.
