I read a response about homosexuals where a Christian said homosexuality was OK but the Bible forbids it. Why so much contradiction when it comes to the truth in the Bible?
If you are a Christian, the Bible is our manual. If you disagree, then God does not know better.

Agree or disagree? Atheists need not answer, you don't believe in this debate anyway.

I don't know...I think that some people out there are wanting something to be true so badly that they will take things out of context to make it ok for them to sin and disobey God. But I believe in the Bible...it is the TRUTH. And you're right...it's God's word and THE WORD IS ENOUGH! I don't know why people oppose it so vehemently. I certainly agree with you...if you're a TRUE Christian, you know it's not God's way to be homosexual.

Christian and LOVING it!!!

Yes, the Bible is a manual which we're obliged to follow. It's not normally difficult to understand, either, unless you just don't like what it's really telling you and want to try to twist the verses to make them mean something else. Lots of people do that, because they come to the Bible with preconceived notions already in their heads, determined to make the Scripture conform to their personal views instead of the reverse. That's a deadly error to slip into. Even worse, it seems that lots of people don't even read it at all anymore, and so they flounder helpless like reeds in the wind, because they don't even know WHAT they believe. The debate about homosexuality is a very good example of that. Homosexuality is the desire to have sex with people of the same gender. There's probably nothing they can do about that aspect of things, so debating about the cause is a waste of time. It might be a misfortune for them to have it, but that's no worse than having a compulsion to steal or an urge to tell lies. They have the inclination, just as lots of other people have lots of other inclinations that cause them grief and problems. That's not the point. The question is, what do they then DO about that inclination. Do they choose to act on it, or not? They don't have to, you know. Kleptomaniacs aren't compelled to steal- they just find it very difficult not to. I'm sure they didn't wish for that problem to be thrown onto their shoulders, either, but that doesn't release them from the obligation not to steal. Homosexuals didn't ask for same-sex desires (that much I can truly believe), but that still doesn't release them from the obligation not to indulge in them. It's hard as nails and tough as boot leather, and the only comfort I can offer is that they're not alone in the struggle, and that God loves them and will help them to be strong, and even if they slip and fall, they can still be forgiven as long as they don't give up trying. Many of the early Greek Christians had been involved in homosexual lifestyles before they became Christians, but then they rejected all that and turned away from it. Modern ones must do the same. That's Scriptural truth- the same thing any Christian who really knows the Bible would tell you, if you asked. Personal views are fine, but they ought to be dumped immediately the instant they conflict with Scripture. I've had to do it numerous times myself. I used to hate alcohol and I thought it ought to be banned- I was as big a fan of Prohibition as you'd ever hope to find. And yet, after reading the Bible, I was forced to change my mind and be more liberal about that issue. Not because I wanted to, but because I cared more about the truth than I did about my personal opinions.

Agreed that the bible is a manual, however God has given us a mind, and well the ability to choose and differ from the rest. There are many things in the bible that are contradictory hence it all depends on the interpretation of an individual. Our perception and ability to judge right from wrong has been created, or rather defined by other humans. Society states certain things which are jotted down for reference as the "manual" they need not necessarily be followed in the same manner. The Bible, the Quran, the Bhagvad-Gita, and many other religious books have been written so we can understand and learn to live in peace, they were written so that we would not kill one another and follow paths of greed to self-destruction. They are not meant to teach prejudism, or hate.

It is because the world has made many Christians think that things the Bible forbids are okay.

These days homosexuality, living in sin, drinking to drunkenness, premarital sex, abortion, divorce, etc. are all acceptable in the world so Christians are swayed. They have put their trust in what society says instead of what God says. It is really sad to see brothers and sisters so confused!

If the Bible forbids homosexuals, then why is the Eposcipal Bishop is openly gay (if you live in the United States, you will know what I am talking about. Or should know)? The bible does not forbid it. If it does, then that Bishop will go to hell

The Bible is our manual.

There are some liberal views of the Bible.

Here are some quotes I've heard from people..."We only follow the teachings of Jesus...and Jesus never spoke against homosexuality, therefore it must be okay."

The other excuse I've heard is that Paul taught wrong.

Give me a break. Those really are lame excuses for trying to make sin Okay.

No, there are many things the Bible teaches that are sin...divorce, homosexuality and and type of sex outside of marriage.

Don't get discouraged, there are many people that SAY they are Christians...on that day they will say, "Lord, Lord, Didn't we ..... ?and he will say, "Depart from me, I never knew you."

well, the bible can be interpreted in several ways, and as society changes so do those interpretations. Many wars have been fought over semantics, and the money and loot they could get of course during those wars, so i think it is best not to worry too much about what the bible and different denominations and stuff think. it just shows that you have way too much time on your hands when you poke your snout into other people personal lives. Not you personally of course, but people in general.

The bible IS the manual...

However Christian churches are so afraid of failing with their declining congregations, that they are trying to make everybody "feel good." It's okay, you're a sinner, all the reason more to come to church...
