Yes it is. And they'll ask EVERY TIME they pull your furry little butt over, for any reason. So, if you don't want a hefty citation, or worse depending on your state's laws, then I highly recommend you get your car insurance.

You can either pay the insurance companies now, or you can pay the courts later. Your choice.

PS. There is one way to avoid the insurance companies, if your willing to shell out 30+ grand cash to the state (at least in Ohio, that is) You can get an insurance bond (don't remember the exact name of the bond). It's sort of like what PayPal is to the Internet. You have an accident that's your fault, and then the state pays the bond amount to the person you hit. But, that's all it covers. I personally don't recommend this route, but it is an option to look into.

Yes, people who drive illegally without insurance are the reason premiums are so high. Florida, at least, is outrageous because over half of the hispanic population in the Miami area drives without any kind of licence or insurance. Get it, don't drive without it.

It entirely depends on the state. In New Jersey you must have a certain minimum amount of insurance, and you need proof of insurance when you take a vehicle for inspection and if you are every stopped by police. In New Jerey the fine was $250 for operating an uninsured vehicle.

It depends on the state law of your particular state.

Most states require at least liability insurance to protect the other person should you cause an accident.

Full coverage insurance is generally required when there is a lien on the car (you haven't paid it off yet). They can repo your car should you fail to keep insurance on it.

It is illegal to drive an uninsured vehicle. Period. Any state. Some states are less aggressive about getting uninsured drivers off the road, but believe me, no state has an ordinance saying, in essence, "You don't need to be insured to drive here."

So, yep, it's illegal. Don't do it.

Most states allow you to have a proof of ability to pay certificate. You do not need to buy insurance if you keep enough money in a special fund to cover all accidents and law suits related to your car.

Since this amount is very high and set by each state, normally only very wealthy people can do this method.

Yes, in most states it is, unless you're an illegal alien. If you are it's mandatory to hit the most expensive car you can find then run off into the bushes.

It's stupid to drive a car without insurance and you will get a ticket.
