What is the ultimate goal of the Muslims?

To worship God, and do as many good deeds as possible so on the Day of Judgement we'll make it to Heaven.

I learned in class that origionally, the ultimate goal was to live a peaceful life free of social hirearchies, poverty, and violence, and by doing so, converting all of Earth's people into poeple of Alla. To me, it seemed like they wanted to live a very simple lifestyle free of money, crossing the deserts as pilgrams, not caravans, and living near the holy cities, much like islamic Amish living on sandy beaches and Oasies. Of course, with all of the corruption between their social and religeous leaders and their enemies, this goal could never have been acheived. Now that modern technology has been introduced as well as other western customs makin their way in, it seems as if their goal has gone from living the simple life to ridding their land of westerner's.
Surprisingly, most "radical muslim activists" share this same common desire that dates back to the crusades, but this time, it's the United States occupying their territory, as well as the coalition forces in Iraq.
Now I'm not a Muslim, and I'm most likely wrong, but I would really want to know from a true believer and scholar of Islam if any of this is true, or if it has any relevance to the origional purpose of Islam.

To single out God for worship as He has told us through His prophets without associating partners with Him.
