Muhammad (PBUH) never learned in His life how to read and write. And this is also one of the proves of being The Holy Quran The Book of God. Why? Let me tell you some facts about The Book.

First of all The Book wasn't actually Written by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The verses were sent to Him (and if you don't believe in Him, just think as those were been dectated by the Tongue of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)). The whole book is in a very fine poetric form and contains the words of Arabic Language that even a highly literate person of that time couldn't spoke that good poetry by himself. Just learn how to read Arabic and read just few verses and you would find that it's not a lie (if you get the translations too). All the verses are highly balanced.

All the Believers (Sahaba) learned all the verses whenever they were delivered. After the Death of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), The Holy Quran was finally collected. Nothing missed out, nothing changed; because more than thousand people have it learned in their hearts. This is the reason there is just one copy of The Holy Quran all around the world.

There are a lot more proves for The Holy Quran to be The Book of God. These proves are for those who want to study and research. If you want to know whether this is true or not, just don't assume anything but study them.

The Holy Quran is scientifically accurate still in 21st century. There is a book "The Bible, The Quran, & Science". Study it.

There is much more than a human can possibly write, especially 1400 years ago. The Book, The Holy Quran is full of Mathematical Calculations that can be easily called Miracles because no one 1400 years ago from the Human being could be that accurate.

There is no way Muhammad or any one of His Companions (Peace be upon All of Them) could write this book by themselves, whether people accept it or not. If you study, you will find it full of miracles.

No one claims that Jesus was not educated, or at least able to read. There is a story of he once was preaching and reading the Torah to the elders.

Muhammad was able to read and write. There is a signed treaty between him and another tribe. Muslims like to tell us he was unable to read, to show us that was the Miracle, since there was no miracle, he never did, he was asked to prove himself with a miracle as many prophets before him did, but he never did.

His wife, Aisha, for one could read and write, and she also taught others how to. Then, Muslims how come she didn't teach her own husband how to read and write? Why?

It is easier to believe that he was not educated, but unable to read and write at all!! that is impossible.
He ad viced his people to learn all they can. Why didn't he take his own advice? WHY?
Science in the Quran! I will Repeat. Filled with mistakes. FILLED. Sorry. but it is true. Earth is NOT the center of the Universe, the sun Does NOT set in Murky water, and no one can even come close to the sun. Just to name a few.

You want a rebuttal from Muslims, how about ex Muslims! would that do!?

i don't understand ... the link you provided ... EVERYONE said no ...

and it's a known fact that prophet Muhammad was illiterate ... he never knew how to read and write ... ever ...

About Quran and how it got here:

1. Quran was dictated to the prophet by the Angel Gabriel sent from Allah(God in Arabic) ...

2. prophet Muhammad, he used to memorize the verses sent to him from Allah by Angel Gabriel very well and tell them to his companions to memorize it as well ...

3. after the death of the prophet ... Muslims had to go through wars ... so alot of the companions of the prophet died there ... so his successor "Abu-Bakr El-Seddek" feared that Quran would be lost ... so he ordered that he rest of the companions of the prophet who was still alive and memorize the Quran to write it down to keep it safe ...

4. When the "Abu-Bakr El-Seddeek" died ... his successor "Authman ibn Affan" noticed that there is versions of the Quran ... where it contained the same words but the sections of the Quran was in different order ...

so he feared conflict may arise between Muslims ... so he ordered that Quran should remain in one version with the same order ... and he burnt the rest of the Quran scriptures that was with Muslims ... and it remained till today in the same order with the same words ...

and the first book of Quran still exists till now ...

And after that journey ... you may think that Quran must have been corrupted ... but i tell you NO NO NO NO... and my proof is in that link:
http://www.miraclesofthequran.com/mathematical_01.html

it contains an amazing word repetitions in the Quran ... that could not be ever made by a human ... not even if he is able to read and write ... and it shows that Quran was never corrupted ... just visit it and see for your self ...

i hope i answered your question the best i could ... best regards ...

And we could also ask if Jesus could read or write considering his poor background. The Bible was first written 70 years by scholars after Jesus died.

The Koran was also written by scholars.
