Since root canals are done with local anesthesia, they do not hurt. A root canal is a procedure where the tooth's nerve is extracted or destroyed so there is no more pain.
It is ALWAYS better to preserve your own teeth, for many reasons. First, teeth are made to chew food. If you are missing a tooth, you won't chew as well. Second, if a tooth is pulled, the rest of the teeth may shift slightly thus disrupting your normal bite. This will make your teeth look crooked and it may also end in bite problems which can lead to problems with your TMJ (where your mandible meets your upper jaw). Third, it just does not look good when one is missing a tooth.
If you can afford it, get a root canal. If you can't , then an extraction is the way to go.

Its uncomfortable because you have to hold your mouth open for like 1 1/2 hours! It's worth saving the tooth if the tooth is in a place that can be seen when you smile. If it's a tooth way in the back then you could just get it pulled. ( Remember that your teeth will shift when a tooth is removed) I recommend just getting a root canal and getting it over with!
Good luck. Getting a tooth pulled is much quicker!
If you do get a root canal make sure to bring chap stick!!! Put a lot on before you sit in the chair!!

I have never had a root canal. But I know a few people that have. From what I have heard It hurts real bad. And it not worth the money at all. If I was you I would have the tooth removed. (if it was in the back) I hope this answers you question.

I had two they never hurt me but I've had all molars worked on I have heard that the front teeth hurt when you get a root canal done. I think it's worth the cost considering I had two done and had them pull 4 It's costing me more now than it would have if I just did the root canals. In my opinion it's worth the money.

I have had NUMEROUS root canals done, and the only time I had a real problem was when I had a "regular" dentist try to do one. Turned out I had a 4th root canal, kind of unusual, and he missed it. Had to have it redone several times before I went to an endodontist who recognized it in 2 seconds, litereally. He fixed it up and no more problems. If you decide to have the root canal I would strongly encourage you to ask for a referral to an endodontist as that is their specialty and you generally won't have any problems. There is some very mild discomfort afterwards, but nothing too bad. Good luck with it.

I had a few root canal. Usually the Dentist says you need a root canal, it is not an option. It doesn't hurt as most people will make it out to be. If it does, just let your dentist know so he/she can give you more novacane (spelling??). Yes, it is worth it. It is better than removing your tooth.

I had a root canal done at 9 years old. First trip to the dentist...ever...and it was to get a root canal. I was scared out of my wits but I can't say it hurt...they numbed me pretty good. Mine was a front tooth so I was glad my parents chose the root canal rather than pulling it.

I just had a root canal this morning. The shot to numb you stings a bit. I think the worst part is hearing the drill. My fear is that they didn't numb me enough.
My insurance covered it. I don't think losing a tooth is a good idea. Your gonna need those chompers for a while! I hate going to the dentst and I put it off until the pain was unbearable. Not good. Go to the dentist, get the root canal, and you'll be fine. Good luck!

is it just a root canal and filling or will it also have to be a crown ( that will cost more than the root canal.
Is it a front tooth or a back tooth, what is your age.
Myself I had two back ones pulled because I could not afford the almost 3000 it was going to cost, If I could afforded it, I would have. ( I did have one front tooth did, root canal and filling, it was about 500 or 600 and it saved having a gap in my smile.
