I went to my local passport acceptance place (one where they send your application and your birth certificate on to the government) and sent it in on May 5th. Is there a way to check on its status?

you can check status on line this way:

Checking the Status of Your Application

To check the status of your application online you will need:

your last name, including suffixes without punctuations except the hyphen, (for example: Jones III, Patton Jr, Jackson-Smith, Varela Garcia),
date of birth in the following format: MM/DD/YYYY, and
the last four digits of your Social Security Number.
To securely input your information, click here.

Note: For security reasons, we recommend that you close your browser after you have finished accessing your passport application status.

If you can’t find the information you are looking on travel.state.gov or if you have any questions, contact the

If you are from the U.S. you can go here to check on it: https://passportstatus.state.gov/opss/OPSS_Status_i.asp

I believe it just tells you when they received it, your method of shipping and then when they ship it. They list the phone number on their website as well. I believe you can call to get a better idea.
