I was checking out the bible after seeing a show on it on Penn and Teller: Bullshit, and another documentart on the real first woman in the bible. In Exodus 1:27 it says "So God created man in his own image of God, Hecreatedhim; Man and Woman he created them" then on Exodus 2:20 - 23 it says 2:20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the sir and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21: And lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam and he slept, and he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place. 22: then the rib which the lord god had taken he made women\\an and he brought her to theman. 23: And Adam said "This is now my flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman because she was taken out of man"
Now I'm perplexed by this either there were two authors to these first two chapters of the bible or there were two women, the first being Lilith, the woman mentioned in the documentary I saw. Your thoughts?

the story you are thinking of is in the "Alphabet of Ben-Sira" written around 800ad "Adam and Lilith began to fight. She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be in the superior one.' Lilith responded, 'We are equal to each other inasmuch as we were both created from the earth.' But they would not listen to one another. When Lilith saw this, she pronounced the Ineffable Name and flew away into the air. Adam stood in prayer before his Creator: 'Sovereign of the universe!' he said, 'the woman you gave me has run away.'" the story goes on about three angels going after her and she has millions of children, 100 of them die, blah, blah, blah, follow the link to read the WHOLE thing, and this story is repeated in the 17th century Lexicon Talmudicum by Johannes Buxtorf

The real first woman? was Eve. the two accounts are the same . the second goes into detail more than the first. the first accounts are like an introduction.
as far as the Mythology of Lilith? think, about 1000yrs ago or so, some guy Like Dan Brown writes a fantasy story that demeans and disparages the Bible. then over the years people rediscover this fictional story and put faith in it. they begin to question the validity of the Bible, instead of the validity of the Fictional story. this is the age old method of the deceiver to mingle truth & lie. so people begin to abandon truth altogether.

There is only one author for the book of Genesis. The two accounts are not different accounts, nor do they contradict each other. Nor do they introduce two women. One account is simply in abbreviated form and the other account goes into the same description but is much more specific. So Chapter 2 of Genesis is simply adding details that were pertinent to the arrival of humans, including Eve as a wife to Adam.
As to Lilith, the so-called first wife of Adam, it's source is man-made tradition.

Christians believe that Eve was the first woman. I'm not sure where the story of Lillith comes from but I've heard it too; supposedly she was Adam's first wife. Because there is no mention of her in the Bible, Christians are to assume she did not exist. Talk to your pastor and see what he/she says.
