It depends on what tanning process you're talking about. The spray-on type is a bit more safe but not by much; it's just like a tattoo and to get any unwanted tanning off may require painful surgery. But the actual UV lamps are just as dangerous because (HELLO!!) they're UV lamps. UV rays are what cause you to get tan in the sun and cause skin cancer in the first place. There was also the myth (also done on an episode of Mthybusters) where it was believed that even artificial tanning for a whole day could practically fry your insides. It's all a possibility concsidering how initially dangerous tanning in general is altogether. Always make a sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 a part of your daily routine expecially in the winter and summer.
