Why should my insurance money go to pay for someone who lives a lifestyle that may be hazardous. You pay to play. With the rising cost of healtcare in this country, this is just a suggestion to help cover the cost.

Only if the buyer of said unhealthy food is overweight. There should be scales placed at all checkout counter rigged to a device that will automatically calculate the tax into the total. It would be a true "fat tax".

Well, if eating unhealthy foods is deserving of a penalty, then all unhealthy activities should also be taxed heavily.
Like Christopher Reeve breaking his back from riding horseback. That could be seen as a high-risk (unhealthy) behavior so it should be taxed. Where would it end? Motorcycle riding? Skydiving? Driving? Skiing?

Really? Shouldn't there be higher taxes on alcohol, alcohol kills a lot more people than unhealthy food.
Shouldn't there be a tax on the Internet, predators use it to find their victims.
shouldn't there be a tax on cheap shoes? Their ill fit causes foot and ankle problems.
Shouldn't there be a tax on stupid people, they eat Taco Bell and McDonald's.
Shouldn't there be a tax on bad teachers, they produce graduate that can't read their own paycheck.
shouldn't there be a tax on Howard Stern, he does immoral things over the air waves.
Shouldn't there be a tax
Why don't we tax everything.
Other factors go into a degradation of a persons health. Genetics, environment, stress.
Shouldn't there be a tax on bosses who stress their employees?
Shouldn't there be a tax on that city bus that just puffed out ten pounds of diesel exhaust into the window of my car?
Shouldn't there be a tax on my fathers dead body, because he passed on the trait of me being susceptible to developing heart disease?
Why would anyone want more taxes?

Only if a regulating body oversees that the funds actually are appropriated properly. Novel idea. And fast food restaurants should have to cough up extra to give to a kitty to help find cures for conditions such as heart disease.

I think that sounds pretty good. It would be very political and it might be hard to get people to agree on what is healthy. And also people vary a lot. What may be really bad for one person because of their genetic makeup might be tolerable to the next. And I think it possibly could waste a lot of time and money.... people fighting about what is good and bad hmm but the thought is intriguing.

Do you really trust the government to tax and spend properly? I mean the US Government spends more then $750 billion a year on health care now...are they getting it right? Is more money really going to fix anything?
Should their be such a tax...NO

NO. There should not be taxes on pretty much anything. It is not the job of the government to babysit your food choices OR your health care options.

I don't think that they should put extra taxes on them. If people want them , they are going to buy them regardless. I think that companies should try to make their food more healthy, so that they don't have all of these law suits in the future.
