No. one will be on the ground or a branch, and the other will fly up only it and is its wings to help balance.

The only birds that don't use either ground or branch, are called PETRELS.

They are really big ocean birds that only come to land to lay eggs. My understanding is that they often mate on water! Yikes! I should try that some time.

I think the only ones that mate in the air are humming birds.

Some do, and some do not. Some Raptor species actually fly high in the air and free fall in order to mate. As do some pigeons. Some are so involved they hit the ground and die. True story. google it up.

Yes, some do, but it depends on the species. Some will mate on the ground if they are larger, but it actually does mostly depend on the species, and the size and habitat of the birds.

Of course!,wild birds use their instincs to reproduce were they want to,even in the air!.An example,in Puerto Rico there are birds called "tortolas" who's basic instinc of reproduction its to mate on air.
