then why do many catholics continue to believe in the devil? This surmon took place on July 28, 1999. He said that the devil was just symbolical for the feeling of being separated and disconnected from God....that it was the suffering and total isolation of not knowing that you are with God.

Are you sure about that? I can't seem to find anything to back that up from a search. Here's what I found @ http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_sat4.htm however.

"The Pope discussed Satan during one of his Wednesday meetings with the faithful on 1999-AUG-18. He explained how Satan was absolutely vanquished by Christ. However, Satan is still present today attempting to seduce individuals into committing wrongful acts."

Because for centuries the R.C.'s have been brainwashed into believing in the devil and that if you go against the church your soul will belong to the devil and you will go to his domain. What all loving god would allow his children to be tortured and burned for eternity. It's just a scare tactic to keep control for without control there would no longer be a church. The concept of good and evil is a balancing act, if there was only good, think about how boring it would be after awhile. No storms, no droughts, no fires, nothing bad at all, after awhile we as humans would get stagnant and bored.

I'm not catholic and did not hear this sermon, but he obviously was very confused. I'm betting the new pope wouldn't say that, he's seen the holocaust, and knows there's a devil. Hell is described as being isolated from God, but never is there any mention of satan being symbolic, he's very real. If you don't believe me, then watch the news.

The Rcs have their own religion. They make it up as they go along! One pope makes rules the next pope cancels the changes! Their religion is a farce. They worship idols, kiss crucifixes, pray to the dead (this is witchcraft) and believe that their god is a bit of toast!
Unbeknown to most Rcs their religion comes straight from the Ancient Egyption sun god worship. They just dont look into it but believe whatever some old man says without question.
Rman catholicism is a non thinking mans religion.

you cant call the pope a liar ,you will go to hell for that ,
even if he is ,and much more than most people realize ,
his loyalties lie with the Illuminati ,not with the flock,

he is the churches keeper of all the lies and secrets that contradict the holy teachings.
he sits before the inverted cross ,a sign of the devil
.and so a contradiction with a lie ,that lies about the contradiction
his business is confusion.
and he got me confused for start.
so that makes him successful

They must have been it the bathroom when the encyclical was read! Most R.C.s are brainwashed in to thinking that this guy is actually THE POOP! There are 5 living poops today including Poop Schinooda who is the head of the Greek Orthodox or Coptic church.

The Devil is so very real. The scriptures speak of him over and over. He is the God of this system. The opposer of God. The one that created heavens and earth....

You have your "facts" a little bit twisted, you can read the exact text of what JP2 said by clicking on the link below. The Devil has been defeated by Jesus, we are now free to choose or reject God. It is our choice wether or not we go to Hell.

I doubt the successor of Peter would tell people that the devil does not exist. You are probably taking it out of contex, I've never heard that.
