They are wild animals, you shouldn't cage them. Unfortunately you have to let it go, no matter how small, cute, cuddly. See, I'd like to have a baby panda but they are wild animals. It is the best choice that you can make for the small, cute hummingbird!

OK, things i have learned that may be of use - use only NektarPlus food, do not use any food or water that is red, or may have red dye in it, you can use sugar water (similar to nectar) (I have a 1 cup feeder.
I put 1/4 cup of sugar in a microwaveable measuring cup.
Add water to fill to 1 cup.
Put it in the microwave for 45 seconds.
Remove and stir. It's not too hot but will dissolve the sugar.
Fill my feeder. Set it in the sink to cool.
Put cup in dishwasher, nothing to store.
Hang up feeder when cool.
um, what else, Do not use vitamin additives,
also, have a look at this link www.waynesthisandthat.com/hummercare.htm
a bit high brow, but there's some good info there.
also, if you are in the us, you will need a permit. be warned.
they also need fruit flies to eat, apparently.
and i think you'll need an aviary (big cage) rather than a standard cage. An aviary is normally about 6ft high, 6ft long, and 4ft wide. covered in wire mesh. and with a roof. and a door, so you can get in and out. they're easy to make.
good luck.

it is unlawful, a minimum of interior the U.S. Hummingbirds are seen songbird species, and are secure by federal regulation. Gulls fall decrease than diverse rules (they do no longer seem to be songbirds, of course), yet they are nevertheless secure - greater strictly, if something. With some exceptions, it is definitely unlawful to have almost any wild chook on your possession. in case you go with for hummingbirds around, I propose a lot of feeders. save the nectar sparkling, or they gained't loaf around. trouble-free recipe for nectar is a million section sugar to 4 components water (I make it somewhat richer interior the wintry climate - we've Anna's Hummingbirds in Washington all 12 months around); deliver the blend to a boil, permit IT COOL, and then refrigerate it until you're waiting to apply it (microwaves and a couple of quart glass jars are a super thank you to make it). do no longer use crimson dye; do no longer use honey (it promotes the upward thrust of fungus on their tongues, and could kill them). commercial hummingbird feeders artwork ok, yet you additionally could make your very own very unquestionably too. i've got made them out of toddler nutrition jars the place the lip has been painted with crimson nail polish, and that they entice hummingbirds basically as properly because of the fact the commercial feeders. they're going to rapidly discover ways to associate you with nutrition; while you're consistent, calm, and affected person, they gets to the component which you would be able to hold the jar and that they're going to truly take a seat on your palms and drink out of your hand (yet another clarification why toddler nutrition jars are good possibilities) - completely cool!

Try going to a pet sure and asking what type of cage to put him in. I'm sure he'll be ok as long as you remember to feed him every 2 hours(that goes for doing the night too!) but if you're not sure ask a vet about what to do with him. Other then that he should be ok and will be ready to release at some point when he feels better

Wildlife rehabilitators don't even have success with hummingbirds. Their diet is far too specific. In order to have every a remote chance, you would need to knwo the type of hummingbird, which species of flowers it frequents, and then get uncontaminated (no insectides, no pesticides, no herbicides) flowers from each species literally in the hundreds. So, its just not possible. Please let it go, because it can't live in captivity.

You need to let the hummingbird go. They need to eat at least every two hours in order to maintain their metabolism. A hummingbird can litterally starve to death in a matter of hours.

I have never heard of anyone keeping a hummingbird. I feed them outside and from what I've read they have to eat every few seconds. They also migrate.

I don't think a hummingbird is a very practical pet but a birdcage should work & you can buy a hummingbird feeder & food anywhere.

Good luck, I hope it survives.
