I'll cast no stones - the Bible from Genesis to Exodus was written over a period of 1000's of years - oral traditions passed down until written down - the Torah, the first five books of the Bible was the scripture for a long time, then the prophets came as there were Kings and they coincided and were written down. Then there is an approximate time period of 400 years +/- that there were several books written but not of the same inspired quality and character that followed the other books accepted as God's inspired Word. Then when Christ came we were given the New Testament or Covenant which was written over approximately a 70 to 90 year period of time, depending on how old some believe John, the apostle to have been when he died on the ailse of Patmos, concluding the writings of Revelations. The "gospels" and the "gnsotics" that were left out of what is accepted as the Bible, the King James Version, was done so as they did not hold to the same values and standards as did the ones we do read and the men who studied them for their content, did not find the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in their writings, but the ramblings of men and women, just as you and I might write of a story taking place on the square, but it would not be the newspaper article that is published. Had God wanted what has been discovered in later years and even earlier years to have been in the Bible, he would have laid it heavily upon the hearts of the men who were given the awesome task of combining the scriptures they believed God inspired. Can we honestly think that God would have left some out just to confuse us some 2000 years later? No, I don't think so. By the way, your honest inquiry won't get you sent to hell either.

There is no evil in asking a legitimate question, because christianity is a THINKING religion. It was born in a philosophically skeptical time. We believe genesis was written around 1400 BC and that the last book of the TAHNAK (old testament) was written around 400 BC. The first book of the New Testament was written around 50 AD or so and the last book, Revelation around 90 AD or so. The reason the above mentioned books are not included in the cannon of scripture is that they are jonny come latelys. They were written well after the apostles and eye witnesses of Jesus were long gone. The church was under persecution at that time and they did not want to be arrested for possesion of illegal "christian" books if said books did not contain the truth. Would you? That is why the current books in the Bible have survived in spite of Roman Emperors' orders to destroy all christian books.

The books of the Bible have been written in a period of more than 500 yrs.

There are other book that are mentioned in the Bible that no one has ever found (at least, not yet), but we have what we need.

God like honest inquiries.

No one knows.

The legitimate debate continues today among bible scholars (none of whom are on Yahoo!Answers) as to who actually wrote various "books" (scrolls) of the bible and when they wrote them.

The only thing we know for a fact is that Roman Emperor Constantine authorized a council to select certain books to be included in the "bible." They met in 325 CE (ad) and chose some books, rejected others.

Those books were not officially acknowledged (canonized) until 397 CE (ad).

And that is all we know. Everything else is opinion and speculation.

Every religion has changed the BIBLE ( or holy book ) to fit there ideas.
For myself, I hope soon a Christian group does add the Mary Magdalen and the other missing Gospels into the bible.

The bible was put together by religious politicians who wanted to keep out the ideas of their opponents. For example, the Anastasians outvoted the Arians when it came to deciding which books to include and exclude from the New Testament. In fact, the emperor of Rome, Constantine wanted certain ideas to be excluded and others to be included so he influenced the Anastasians to vote his way. It was a big political war the way the books of the bible were selected. And Christians today think it fell from heaven straight from god!

the original texts were combined over several hundreds years certain books being translated from Greek Aramaic and Latin books were omitted and edited as seen fit. the bulk of the translations were commissioned by Calif's of Cadiz Cordoba and other Moorish provinces. not the catholics. the first version of the book we refer to as the bible was compiled by scholars under the direction of king James( an Anglican) and final draft written by shake spear

the old testament was written over about 900 years with the prophets and writings (ie not the pentateuch) having many writers and editors. The new testaments was written over a period of about 250 years. there was a gap of about 600 years between the last old testament book and the first gospel.

The New Testatment was written by a bunch of liars. The first five books of the Old Testament was written by the one true G-d, the rest were written by the prophets of the times.

the bible is a compilation work with the point of veiw of the editors imprinted on it however the arguement is that Gods word contains his spirit and the things we need are still there and still powerful enough to survive the pencil or the sword of justinan or the council of bishops or the roman church or any ones late adititions in its present form theres still the message of christ and the promise of god
