The NCPGA has two co leaders in the San Francisco area to help new golfers with growth of the game programs. I'm in the Sunnyvale area and Bruce is at Golden Gate Park. Here is a link to people who have good programs and will know of others in their area

Call any golf course resident professional. All
golf courses have one. There job is to give you lessons ( for a fee- not cheap) and also to sell you equipment (golf balls, shoes, clubs, ball markers etc. They are golf pro's and they are salesmen. The more they can sell, the more money they can make. It's an expensive sport!
