I have been looking up on child support but I couldn't find anything about Daughter getting child support from Father. I am 19 and turning 20 soon but am I able to get child support from my father who have never paid? What should I do?

First, I would recommend you talk to your local Department of Human Resources (Child Support Division). In many states, child support is payable (to the custodial parent) until the child is 19 (or 21 if post minority status is filed prior to the child turning 19 and is a full time college student).

Second, I would talk to an attorney well versed in child support issued (many Department of Human Resources have a full time attorney to assist them that will talk to you free).

The rules vary in different states, and I am only familiar with two states (Alabama and Florida), so I would strongly suggest you look into the two recommendations above immediately.

Hope this helps.

Child support is an agreement between your mother and your father, and was intended to be money for your mother to use to support you while you were growing up. It is money due your mother to reimburse her expenses incurred in raising you. Since you are now "of adult age", your expenses are your own. The money is owed your mother, not you. It has nothing to do with you.

If your father agrees to help you with college, that is wonderful, but unless it was written into the divorce, he owes no one that money. Even if it was a part of the divorce settlement, unless he gives it to you or your mother freely you have to take him to court to get it, and it is up to the court to collect it. Good luck there... it ends up costing so much to go to court, that we all end up giving up. Sorry for the sad news, but I do mean the "good luck" part from the bottom of my heart!

the very frst thing you should do when you found this out, is go hug and thank your mother for getting you to this point. college is attainable, I hope you succeed.
