Fred Phelps is an embarrassment to all Christians and to all of humanity. When people say "those Christians are mean bigots" they really are talking about Fred Phelps and his half-dozen followers.
He is NOT a part of mainstream Christianity (and he'd even tell you that much himself)!

You'd have to be a death, blind, and dumb fool to not know of Phelps.
The reactions he keeps getting are bothersome, considering he's been doing these picketings for years and only now does it seem people are finally beginning to speak out against his loud-mouthed messages of hatred. It seems strange that many people (the gay community in particular) are waiting more eagerly for his death, in hopes that when he's gone the 100-and-something clan of his will go out, right along with his teachings. Of course, it's nevertheless predictable as well. With someone as dedicated as he is toward getting seen in public, it's no wonder people have the party cakes prepared for when he croaks.
The only thing any god hates would be fools like him.

Never heard of him till now, BUT, if he says God hates gays, then maybe he should study his Bible better. God hates sin. Homosexuality is sin. God doesn't hate people. He loves all people. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. (John 3:16) God hates the sin of being gay, not people who are gay!
