Im curious as a parent of a young teenage what a good allowance is? Please put what your allowance is and not what you feel it should be. Also please put your age since allowances should progress as you get older.

I'm 13 years old and my mother gives me a $40 allowance per month as long as all my chores are completed daily(Monday- Saturday). Each day that I do not do my work she deducts $1.66 (40 a month/24 days a month that I am required to do chores)

You know...I agree with buying neccessities...BUT...my parents give me a good allowance that covers my basics (petrol, phone, etc) and when I want something a little more expensive than the money they gave me they say to me "I gave you money use that." They take me on a guilt trip, then say yes they'll buy it for me BUT they're "NOT HAPPY."

Hello...something doesn't work here. Don't do it to your teen, PLEASE!!!! It's dibilitating and makes them dependent on you, and their self esteem drops so they don't even think about getting a job cos you've told them no...yes....maybe....let me check. Leave no grey areas....yes or no. If it's no...stick to it....same with yes.

Gees...I wish some of this advice was been given to my parents right now...it would be a miricle. I'm 23 and still dependent and feeling VERY awkward and guilty about this. My dad wants to retire soon...like yesterday...and I'm "eating up his money." For what? Qualifications. Modular. My last full time course I didn't finish so he's on about that to me. VERY UNFAIR...don't do it.

Cheers and good luck.

i didn't have a weekly allowance - instead my parents and i would disscuss purchases and they would pay for anything that was a necessity and most other things within reason. i did get paid small amounts if i did an extra big job around the house every once in a while. this was how my brother and i were both raised all through our youth.

I got $15 for lunch in HS [but I also had a job], and a $10 allowance in MS [I brought my lunch then, or that would have been paid too I'm sure].

Depends on what you're doing to earn the allowance, but if you're kid's a teenager, their definitely old enough to work for their money.

I'm 14 and I get $20 a week. This covers lunch and snack at school and extra money for whatever I want.

well my mom gives me five dollars a day but that includes what I get to spend for lunch at school. I think its pretty fair, If i want something badly then I just dont buy lunch for a month (100$)
