I would assume that it is a comfort food for you. How long have you been eating your bread this way, and whom did it originate with for you? Comfort foods (those that go way back with us) are always yummier. :) For me, it is cornbread, chili, and homemade ice cream, among others.

because, as the pythagorean theorum say, the length of the cut side will be longer than the length of either of the sides, so there's way more innerbread bites than crust bites.
In otherwords, by minimizing crust and maximizing inner goodness it turns up the rocks, and turns down the sucks.

Because when you bite into it, if its a sandwich or a piece of toast, you bite right into the center where all the flavor is (like butter or peanut butter & jelly).
