My parrotlets are good pets now. I keep them in separate cages. Someone told me if I put them in the same cage, they won't be good pets anymore. I would like to breed them, but I want to keep them as pets. What should I do?

Breeding birds, as a general rule, are less friendly with their owners because they need to be bonded so closely with each other. This can be true from budgies right up to macaws.
If you want to breed your birds, they need special requirements that don't make the best environment for "normal" pet birds (not for them, but for you as the pet owner). They often like to be left alone, will be less social with you, and not be as affectionate.
This isn't true in every case, I do know the owners of a breeding pair of Senegals who have no problem at all.
I would just enjoy your birds, they are fascinating little parrots, there are plenty of breeders around;)
Good luck in whatever you choose to do!

I have a quaker parrot and my breeder that I go to says that once a pair of birds bonds they mostly will never come out to be held because they bonded with each other its kind of like they don't need you any more. So I suggest that maybe you should not breed them, or maybe go see if you can find a pair to breed that are not tame. Hope I helped!

If you want a pair to breed you will need to let them bond to each other and not you. The male will need to become gaurdian of his female and he might not let you near her. I have a friend that has had lots of birds and none of them ever mated. They had a pair of finches that never hatched any eggs. Now they have a set of four conure parrots in the same cage two males and two females and none of them have ever paired up to make babies. My advice is to be aware that they might not be the best pets if you want them to mate and they might never produce offspring. It's your choice.

Your birds will stay the same... that was crudy info that that person gave you because that is not true, except the mom might get a little protective of her egg.
