I am for the right to do what a woman wants and I think that if someone has make a huge mistake(who hasn't?) and it ended up in pregnancy, they should be able to get an abortion. Some people would just not be able to have thier baby and then have to give it up for adoption. It might be too hard for them to do emotionally. Some people call it murder, but I don't, no offense. I won't go into why I don't consider it murder becuz I seem to piss people off alot in my questions when I don't mean to so I'll just leave it up to you guys to fight over.
So what's your opinion on abortion?

oh and I'm not saying it should be used as birth control like so many people are tlaking about. And now that I'm hearing some more things about abortion, I'm starting to change my mind about it. Maybe I am against it. I'm not sure anymore. Now I'm on the fence about it. I need more information on the subject now for me to give a or sure yes or no to abortion.
Thank you everyone. More comments please. :-)

I am for it. I believe it is a personal choice, and that the government has NO rights to tell us women, what we CAN or Cannot do with our bodies....every situation is different...I think it is more horrid...to let 12 year old's become mother's...than it is to give them abortions...

For myself personally i would not have an abortion. It IS murder. By the time a woman finds out shes pregnant that BABY already has all his/ her organs. There is also proof that an early (4 -6 weeks into pregnancy) abortion the baby can feel pain and tries to move away. For other people...i think it depends on the situation. If a girl is raped and pregnancy occurs ( i was in this situation and gave the baby up for adoption) i could understand her having an abortion. Also if the woman is told she will die if she continues the pregnancy. I dont agree with the MANY women that use abortion as birth control,.
I feel that if a girl/woman doesnt want to become pregnant she should do something to avoid it. Abstinance is not impossible

It's funny to me that you say "make a huge mistake". Don't make a huge mistake! Use protection....ALWAYS! If a woman does not want to become pregnant, she has to make sure that she does not get pregnant. Abortion is not birth control. It is pure ignorance to me that a woman would choose to not prevent a pregnancy and then just go and "kill it". And in some cases.....over and over again. I believe in adoption whole heartedly. You say that some people might have a hard time emotionally giving their baby up for adoption? Well, would she not have a hard time going and getting a life killed and sucked out of her body? Do you have children? I love mine so much. My life would be nothing without them. I do not agree w/ abortion as birth control. The only time I would even consider it would be in the case of rape, death for the mother, or severe handicaps to the child. And still, it would have to be right away in the pregnancy.

Whether it's hard emotionally or not for the mother to give their baby up for adoption, that's what I believe is right if the mother and/or father can't take care of a baby. "Too hard" isn't good enough, not when it means killing the baby.

The only time I can clearly see the need for an abortion would be if the mother's life is jeopardized by the pregnancy. In the case of rape, I'm undecided on this. That's the only "too hard" case that can be justified.

A human soul is "born" upon concepcion. The life it enters is not yet physically developed fully, but it's still a HUMAN LIFE. A zygote is still a human zygote, and that zygote has a human soul. It is NOT up to another person to play God by ending this human life.

As for being poor, I grew up poor. I remember one week we ate cake for dinner, that's all there was. I was an "oops" and so was my sister. As for an unborn baby with physical disabilities, I was born totally blind in both eyes. I THANK my mother for wanting me from the moment she knew she was pregnant, for not using these excuses for killing me, for taking responsibility for her (and my father's) actions. She was a WOMAN about it!!!!!

im for it, only because Id rather that the baby go with GOD immendiately , then to be in this world unwanted. Then, they'd end up brutally murdered by their parents! GOSH i really dont like talking about this....oh, and i think after 2 abortions is enough. They should have their tubes tied if thats the case..

I'd like to warn you that my opinion about abortion is based on reason, and very few people approach the abortion debate using reason. For most people, it's an emotional debate fueled by guilt. The emotions on the issue tend to run so deeply most people forget which is which. So I do apologize for any hurt feelings which result from my dealing with abortion reasonably.

I support a woman's right to have control over their reproductive capacity. Abortion does not affect citizens (a person is not a citizen until they are born) or the intrinsic assets of the nation, so there is no legislative basis for there to be any laws taking rights away from a citizen (the pregnant woman)

Furthermore, abortion is not murder. Murder is the willful taking of one human's life by another human. I've seen pictures, and the fetus might look vaguely human, but physiologically a fetus is more like a salamander than a human. I know that sounds harsh, but there's also a degree to which deep down you know that it's true.

Neurologically, the child isn't complete until it's a year old, and continues developing for about 25 years. So while it's still in the womb, it's certainly not a developed human. It's a part of our natural development for the brain to be undeveloped at birth because otherwise the head could never have fit through the opening.

I asked the question "What makes humans distinct from other animals?" I received many interesting answers: The awareness that we are different from other animals, the ability to make rational decisions, the ability to suppress our animal nature, the ability to conceptualize good and evil, large brains, the ability to create art, the ability to question one's existence, speech, self improvement, and so on. At a glance, it's fairly obvious that a fetus does not have any of these qualities. In doing further research, I came across this website which I strongly recommend: http://7e.devbio.com/article.php?id=162

A fetus has the potential of becoming human, but being human is a very special thing and a fetus isn't there yet. Being human is more than just a matter of our genetic make-up. It's about the way we think. Without the way we think, we are like any other animal.

Given that most people believe in the existence of a soul, It becomes an issue to consider when a person gets a soul. If you believe that only humans have souls, then the fetus doesn't have one because it's not yet human. It has the potential to become human, but it's not there yet. If you believe that all creatures have souls, then it goes to wherever souls go. If you believe in Karma, then that life served a purpose which it was there to do and can karmically celebrate that it's life accomplished what it was destined to accomplish.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone to think that I'm advocating killing babies. Babies are cute and respond well to people, kinda like puppies, and I am also opposed to killing puppies. In fact I have often been very supportive of all things child related and puppy related. But when it comes right down to it, and we consider the neural biology, certain facts become apparent. But I want to make it very clear that I am in no way advocating infanticide, which is much nicer than the bible which doesn't even mention infanticide despite the fact that it was commonly practiced at the time. In fact, until about a hundred years ago, I can't recall this ever having been much of an issue ever in the history of the world. But now, as infant mortality rates are at an all time low, and population is soaring out of control, now is the time in human evolution when people decide to stand up and say that abortion is wrong.

Christians claim to take truth from the bible, and the bible makes no reference to abortion (which according to Wikipedia did exist in ancient times http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion ) or even infanticide. In fact the closest thing to a reference is in Exodus 21:22 to the punishment if a man does violence to a pregnant woman causing her to lose the child, which is different from the punishment for murder as described in Exodus 21:12, which clearly indicates that the basis for popular religious thought for the Judeo-Christian-Muslim traditions did not intend for the killing of a fetus to be regarded as murder. But this is a religious view point, and not a secular viewpoint, so it out not have any influence over the law.

A lot of Christians look to the commandment, "Thou Shalt Not Murder," However, there is a great deal of subjectivity to how the bible deals with killing and the nature of murder. Given that it was practiced commonly by the ancient people for whom the ancient bible was new (the people who best know the original intent of the scriptures) coupled with abortion not being mentioned anywhere in the bible, I'm of the opinion that the bible did not intend for abortion to be viewed as murder.

I know there is a lot in here which some people will react against, because I'm dealing with the topic frankly, openly and head on. That's not the way people usually deal with the abortion debate. They hide behind images of something cute and say, "It's a defenseless innocent human, how could you kill it." I have learned that it's generally a good idea to to be wary of people who's only rationale is guilt. I'm not hiding behind any feeling based arguments but instead dealing with the actual issues. Feelings are too easily manipulated. Just ask anyone who works in marketing. But the facts are the facts and when people get over their feelings on the issue and stop listening to people trying to retain their positions and relevance by convincing people that this is actually a reasonable issue, then maybe we could move on and deal with all the real issues which we were distracted from because of this bogus abortion debate. Like for instance, why is it that there have been major advances in everything for the past 50 years, but we're still stuck with the same corrupt politicians?

i am totally against it (abortion). women should be responsible for their actions, people who have sex and get pregnant -- they're old enough to know to take extra precautions so that they won't get pregnant.

here's a trivia: 2 WEEKS (not months) after conception, a 2-week old fetus already has a heartbeat.

i don't believe in giving a right to a woman who knows what the consequences of her actions are. i'd say if she was totally stupid and didn't know what's going to happen or if she was raped and got pregnant, i'd think twice about it. why give a chance to woman who is irresponsible, and why not give a chance to an innocent fetus with a heartbeat. imagine if you were that fetus, would you like to be aborted? how could people say they believe in "animal rights" even "HUMAN RIGHTS" and do this? this upsets me. if someone were to come to me and told me they're going for abortion, i'd tell them flat out -- i wish your mother aborted you so you will know what it feels like.

sorry to be harsh. but there ARE people who knows how to be responsible for their own actions out here. how could they want abortion, and have the guts to attend mass on sundays?! how could they celebrate mother's day, when they have abortion in their thoughts? im not rich, but if i were to get pregnant -- i'd raise that child no matter what. it's not whatever material things or money you can give to a child, but the love. women who go for abortion, i believe are selfish. they only think of themselves. i grew up in a poor family, but they loved me. they taught me not to be selfish, i didn't get enough toys when i was a kid, rarely celebrated my birthday... and i worked hard to pay myself through college. my family taught me the value of hardwork and humility and i am very thankful for that -- in return, i work hard for them. i want them to live comfortably, give them the life that we didn't have. they are more important to me than my own self.

and also... if you ever got pregnant and you're not prepared for it, please know that there are people everywhere who will be more than willing to help you through it. i applaud the mothers who gave birth, raised their child, and taught them good morals. (i guess i applaud my own mother as well)
