When i decided to start teaching my son how to dress himself, i decided that i would use his stuffed horse names charlie. he wears the same size as my son and and he could look at it everyday. well, i dressed the horse and told my son that this is the way i want to see him dressed everyday. now he gets up in the morning and sees charlie horse and go to his clothes and puts on an outfit simular to what the horse is wearing. should i have done that diferent? i dress the horse everyday, what if i forget one day? how will i break him of dressing like the horse? should i be worried?

Stop worrying! No you didn't anything wrong. However you have a very smart son. Your son also wants to please mom by doing exactly what she says. So your son is doing his part. Now you have to do your part and dress the horse everyday. Don't worry you will only have to do this for a little while. And think of how you two will laugh years later when you two think about this. Sounds like fun! Relax and enjoy these years because they don't last for long. Good Luck.

I think that is such a good idea! Very cute and creative. I wouldn't worry though. You could start letting your son dress Charlie instead of you doing it. You could see if he's gotten the concept or if he's just copying what he sees. If he does well, he could dress Charlie to match what he decided to put on for the day.

I like the way you taught him. :) You can try leaving the clothes off the horse before bed and asking your child to get his own bed clothes out. See what happens when he has to dress himself and has no model. If he puts his pants or shirt on backwards try helpfully pointing out that his pockets may be harder to use or the shirt design is where he can't see it. He may care and he may not. At least he is dressing himself! If the colors don't match it's ok, he is learning and that is what is important. Try showing him a few outfits that go well toegther using the garments that he mismatched and a few new items that do match them. If he puts on clothes that are not appropriate for the weather outside let him go out and feel hot in the sweat shirt or feel cold in shorts. He'll learn the meaning of hot and cold real fast.:) If you are afraid of being embarrased in public because your kid is wearing mismatched clothes or because he has his clothes on backwards try having him wear a special badge that says "I dressed myself today" It keeps peopel from saying too much and staring. :)

I think it's pretty creative. I think there could have been a better way though. Your son might be comparing himself to horses the rest of his life and you probably don't want that. Maybe you could make a check list and put it on his bedroom wall.

Thats an awesome idea!!, but its true, someday you will have to break from that, just ask him if hes ready to dress himself without seeing charlie dressed, one day you'll hear "I can do it myself"

But you are still dressing something! Are you trying to get your son to pick out his own clothes?
For my daughter I pick out two complete out fits that she can mix and match. It is less of a battle for my 'princess'.
P.S. if your son starts wearing a saddle you have gone to far...;-)

I like your idea. It is clever. Eventually, you will be able to just lay out the clothes for him to put on. Just give it time.
