ok lets give you some better info..... 4-6 week is right......If you have a larger dog and a large litter I suggest the 4-5 week mark because big litters are hard on a momma dog if it is a smaller litter the longer they nurse the better..... at about 4 weeks to 4 and a 1/2 weeks just take some PUPPY food and in a flat dish jsut ad water and let it set till it is mushy the first times there should be absolutly no hardness to it at all because they can choke very easy...... you should also only offer once a day in the beginning and what ever you do do not let them gourge themselves theire insides are sensitive and yeah a rolly polly puppy is cute to us but that belly ach to them is severe. you will have some that will immadtely start chomping and some that will have no desire dont worrie they will start a little later....after the first week or so start upping the times you feed them. by the time they are about 6 weeks momma should only be feeding them at night....... My experiance comes from large breed so by all means if yours is a poodle they should not be offerd food till well into their 5th week.... I hope this helps and if you have any questions at all feel free to email me.you also need to get some wormer from your VET...to be administered when they are eating good and you notice them go POT BELLY......(about 5-6 weeks not long after they begin eating) this will be a very distentive belly they will get. YOu have to get it from the vet because anything over the counter is not gentel enough for a puppy....
I hope this helps and good luck.... you also need to be looking up on how to potty train while still a little puppy you can have them paper trained by about 6 weeks if you do it right... just put it in you search engin and you should get some good hits...

This breeder needs shooting!! So mum doesn't want her anymore - RUBBISH!!! The person who doesn't want her anymore (the work) is this 'breeder'. At 4 weeks, this puppy will hardly have been weaned. And she needs her mum for at least another 2 weeks, and then 2 more weeks in the nest with her siblings so she's a well rounded puppy, properly established in her diet. Please take her back to the breeder NOW. On the other hand, if this person is the sort to send a puppy of this age out into the world, maybe she'd be better off where she is now. You will need - Puppy Formula Milk, Puppy dry food, maybe goats milk instead of the PF Milk, which is closest to b itch milk.... and so on. At 4 weeks, this puppy should only have just begun to take in solids, and still be topped up by mum. A sort of half and half diet - and bitches often don't want to be in with their litter all the time (usually actually) by 4 weeks, but they do allow 'comfort suckling' which is essential. Ask your sister where the puppy came from - and make your decision, but just know you have a lot of work ahead in rearing this puppy where her irresponsible breeder left off - are you able to do this? Do you have the time?

I usually start trying to see if they'll eat when there about 2 weeks old. If there ready they'll eat if there not they won't eat. Try soft canned food or taking hard food and mixing it with milk and mussing it up. If they don't eat I wait and start trying once every week. Make sure that it is warm or they won't have nothing to do with it.

My dog has 5 week old pups we just went to the vet today. He said that I should start weening now. I thought 6 to 8 weeks. The vet said the mom dog knows what she is doing and will ween them when she is ready. To put softened puppy food out for them.

my dogs puppies began eating their own food at 7-8 weeks, i took dry puppy food and soaked it in warm water and then slowly introduced more dry food to them.
