How many of you find it hard to eat healthy is the US? Between the cost and the lack of natural, healthy food...I find it very difficult. What do you think we, as a nation, could do to resolve this issue?

I understand that it is a CHOICE to eat healthy...what I mean is the AVAILABILITY and the EXPENSE of healthy foods compared to junk food!

The cost is absurd. A friend of mine sat down with the past few weeks of coupons and a local store flyer one time. With double coupons (up to $1 is Price Chopper's policy), and sale items each of our families could haved gone shopping bought Hamburger Helper and the likes, a bulk pack of ground beef, canned veggies, and canned fruit, coupon items for cereals and snacks. The grocery bill for my family of 4 would have come to $54 after coupons. Her family of 3 could have eaten for $41.

Typically, however, buying fresh fruits and veggies, and boneless chicken or pork - my bill comes to $96 a week. There is the problem, there are coupons for junk and many of us need coupons to keep our bills down. Coupons for fresh veggies, fruit, and meat do not exist usually. The government needs to get comapnies willing to offer coupons on their fresh, healthier products.

we're working on it. Many of the fast good chains are offering healthy... or I guess I should say healthier food choices. Many like Jack in the box and McD's offer fresh fruit. Unfortunately its like $3 and you'd be crazy to pay that.

Its not hard eating Healthy a big city. Its not hard healthy when you sit down and eat. We as a country enjoy our food fast and on the go. Just count the number of people eating on the freeway next time your in traffic. Unfortunately there isn't really any such thing as fast healthy food. Not in this nation or any other. When you look at Europe for example. Many people say they eat healthier than us.

Most people sit down at a cafe. The pastries they grab for on the go don't contain as much sugar as we like. Coke comes in a small glass without refills. They also pay a lot more for fast food than we do so they eat it less. A big mac in the Czech republic is 99kc. That’s about right for us as Americans, but the avg hour wage there is something like 70kc. Translate that in to US $ on the same scale and we would be paying $8-9 for a Big Mac. Forget that, I might as well go to Denney's for lunch.

It IS hard! I'm a vegetarian, so my choices are pretty limited. So many people would rather have McDonalds then a healthy meal---its pretty sad..I think people should raise more awareness about how unhealthy that kind of eating can really be in excess--heart attacks, obesity, etc

It's quite easy...unfortunatly you just have to think of it as a way of life...we need food for nutrition not for fastfood/junk food overload....Best advice I got was to see a nutritionist..I learned how much Americans over eat and to control portion sized..Its crazy to think of all the bad things we put in our bodies.

I find it extremely hard, and it's frustrating, especially being an athlete. We need to serve smaller portions in restaurants and at fast food places, like they do in Europe. No more supersizing!
