Isaiah 34:14, describing the desolation of Edom, is the only occurrence of Lilith in the Hebrew Bible, which would make her over 3,000 years old if this Lilith was the first wife of Adam, the story you are thinking of is in the "Alphabet of Ben-Sira" written around 800ad "Adam and Lilith began to fight. She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be in the superior one.' Lilith responded, 'We are equal to each other inasmuch as we were both created from the earth.' But they would not listen to one another. When Lilith saw this, she pronounced the Ineffable Name and flew away into the air. Adam stood in prayer before his Creator: 'Sovereign of the universe!' he said, 'the woman you gave me has run away.'" the story goes on about three angels going after her and she has millions of children, 100 of them die, blah, blah, blah, follow the link to read the WHOLE thing, and this story is repeated in the 17th century Lexicon Talmudicum by Johannes Buxtorf
by the way, the Torah/Pentateuch is the first five books of the same bible, the Septuagint is the Greek version of the Old Testament 48 books from around 200bc

The old testament of the Bible, is, in most part the Torah. Most Christians were Jews before Christ - those who chose to believe in him, became Christians. So we share a lot of the same history when it comes to religious teachings.
Anyhow - the story in Genesis... God made the earth, all the creatures and plants. He made Adam and made him the lord of all these creatures, and asked Adam to name them all. God thought these creatures would keep Adam company, but none was good enough. So while Adam was sleeping, he took a rib from his chest and formed a woman from his flesh - and named her Eve. And that was his companion and Adam was happy. The only rule they had was to NOT touch the Tree of Knowledge. But a little snake had other plans and convinced Eve that why shouldn't she have the knowledge too? So she ate an apple...then Adam ate the apple. Then they became shameful and aware of their nakedness, and started to question god. God then kicked them out of Eden - where everything they needed was provided for them - and they were left to fend for themselves.
That's the story to the best of my knowledge. No recollection of a Lilith, unless it is just a differing translation on her name, as I am sure the bible has been translated hundreds of times.

The first 5 books of the bible are called the septuagent, also known as the law of Moses also called the Torah.
They are one & the same..
The Adam & Lilith story is myth and supposedly Lillith was a vampire & a bit too earthy & animalistic for poor Adam.
You have to decide what to read, myth or truth.
But there are your difference..
BTW the oldest book is Job, not Genesis.
Or to be more accurate parts of Job are older than Genesis (Most Scholars state they were written at the same time.
Also, Eve didn't trick Adam into taking a bite (Often being stated as such). The Bible says "Adam, who was there with her, also took a bite"

I cannot answer your question very thoroughly. I heard about the story you are mentioning. All I can add to what already has been answered is that Lilith is said to have become a vampire-like woman after leaving Adam and having been driven out of somewhere. She thus allegedly has a disturbing effect on children. Possibly she does not get along well with animals either. Hence, you can see her in Frasier's ex-wife, Lilith, someone who is not a regular at Cheers or in Frasier's life, but who nevertheless pops in and out occasionally just to let him know that she is still thinking about him, and not necessarily in a kindly way. (Poor Adam and Frasier, heh?)

Paramahansa Yoganada's guru Sri Yukteswar whom was an elightened Avatar of Wisdom (jnanavatar) had this amazing insight into the true meaning of the Adam and Eve story. Paramahansa wrote about what he imparted in his book "An Autobiography of a Yogi". You can read that section by going directly to this link :
http://www.crystalclarity.com/yogananda/chap16.html
Scroll down to the paragraph right after number #13.
Sri Yukteswar said:
"Genesis is deeply symbolic, and cannot be grasped by a literal interpretation," he explained. "Its 'tree of life' is the human body. The spinal cord is like an upturned tree, with man's hair as its roots, and afferent and efferent nerves as branches. The tree of the nervous system bears many enjoyable fruits, or sensations of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. In these, man may rightfully indulge; but he was forbidden the experience of sex, the 'apple' at the center of the bodily garden.14
"The 'serpent' represents the coiled-up spinal energy which stimulates the sex nerves. 'Adam' is reason, and 'Eve' is feeling. When the emotion or Eve-consciousness in any human being is overpowered by the sex impulse, his reason or Adam also succumbs.15
"God created the human species by materializing the bodies of man and woman through the force of His will; He endowed the new species with the power to create children in a similar 'immaculate' or divine manner.16 Because His manifestation in the individualized soul had hitherto been limited to animals, instinct-bound and lacking the potentialities of full reason, God made the first human bodies, symbolically called Adam and Eve. To these, for advantageous upward evolution, He transferred the souls or divine essence of two animals. 17 In Adam or man, reason predominated; in Eve or woman, feeling was ascendant. Thus was expressed the duality or polarity which underlies the phenomenal worlds. Reason and feeling remain in a heaven of cooperative joy so long as the human mind is not tricked by the serpentine energy of animal propensities.
"The human body was therefore not solely a result of evolution from beasts, but was produced by an act of special creation by God. The animal forms were too crude to express full divinity; the human being was uniquely given a tremendous mental capacity—the 'thousand-petaled lotus' of the brain—as well as acutely awakened occult centers in the spine.
(That is just a portion of it. I won't paste it all here. If you want to read the rest, then just go to that link.)

I haven't heard anything about Adam and Lilith, but it's possible Lilith could be Eve, just a name change. They mean the same thing, just in different languages.. look it up.
Anyway, Adam was formed by God, then put to sleep so they could take a rib to make Eve. This is literal as well as figurative. Eve was formed to be a helpmate and companion to Adam.
Adam and Eve were put in charge of the garden of Eden by God and Christ to care and watch over it. They were also commanded to multiply and replenish the earth.
They were in a child-like state of innocence and didn't know what it meant to multiply and replenish, so they went about their days having fun and doing what ever they wanted.
There was a being- man, snake, whatever you want to call him- that showed up. He said he was Satan and that he wanted Adam to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which Adam and Eve had been commanded not to eat.
Adam said no, he was living up to the commandments he had made with God. So Satan went to Eve. He told her that unless she ate it, she wouldn't know the difference between good and evil, happy or sad, good or bad. There would be no opposites because everything was good there.
Eve knew that unless she ate the fruit, they couldn't fulfill their other promises and covenents made with God, so Eve ate the fruit.
After this, she went and told Adam that she had eaten the fruit. He knew that because she had eaten it, she would be cast out of the garden and he would be left alone. He knew that they were supposed to stay together and multiply and replenish, so he ate the fruit.
After this, God came to see them. They knew they were naked, so they made clothes from leaves and the such and hid from God. When they finally came out from hiding, God knew what they had done and had them promise that they would keep all other promises to him.
They were cast out of the garden so they would learn the difference between all the opposites. That's when they figured out what mulitiply and replenish means...
There's the story, hope it's satisfactory for you.

Adam & Eve were the first according to the King James Version of the Bible. King James commissioned many scholors to research the information and publish it.
The complete story in short:
God said: Don't do it
Eve did
Talked Adam into it
He did
They got cought and were ashamed
Lost the Garden of Eden by eviction
Messed it up for all of us.
Jesus came back and helped us out.
People talk smack about him
God said: Don't do it
People did
and now ........
Just DON'T do it......

That story is in the Jewish bible. In effect, Adam had 2 wives. You could read one version or the other and it wouldn't take you long to realize the bullshit involved. I can't believe so many people actually take those stories literally. Have any of you people ever heard of a METAPHOR???!!!
