At 9 years old, it's hard to say what would help. You could try behavior modification training. Seek out a good trainer. Ask your vet, ask friends.

I've also used flower essences (Bach Rescue Remedy) with my dogs to calm them and help with seperation anxiety.

The treatment should have been done 8 1/2 years ago - it's called training and socialization! If she is aggressive because she's afraid, your vet can prescribe an anti-anxiety medication that may help. Nothing is going to make an aggressive dog safe to be around, especially after all this time!

I'd also suggest reading some really good books on training. Try not to do it randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also! These are some of my favorites, and even if they don't help on this dog - they'll help you get your next dog started right!

Work with a dog behaviorist to see what can be done. Often times, keeping the dog's brain occupied helps (go for more walks, give her "puzzles" to figure out, such as hunting for treats while you are gone... ). On top of the exercise & mental stimulation, you can try to change your behavior & re-enforce that you & hte members of your family (people who have regular contact with the dog) are seen as the "alpha dog" - if you allow the dog on furniture, change that routine & no longer allow the dog access to chairs, sofas, people's beds, etc; make sure that you feed your dog AFTER everyone in the household is finished eating, never feed the dog at the table. Enforce that people walk through a doorway or passageway before your dog does... little things like that can lead to the dog becomming aggressive as a means to assert domination.
If working with a behaviorist does not help (it's ok to try a few of them, as there are different theories on how to best deal with aggression), try to rule out any mebdical issues that may be causing hte aggression. Is the dog in pain? Even if you see no other signs of pain, she may be biting b/c a part of her body hurts when you touch it, or all of her hurts & that is making her more "crabby" and aggression-prone. My 4 year old labbit people when they touched her head. It took 3 vet visits to figure out that she had a nasty ear infection & every time someone would pet her, it exasserbated her head-ache which lead her to bite people to get them to stop touching her... Getting your dog to stop being aggressive may be as simple as fixing a physical problem. Since she is older, it may be that she has developed arthritis or some other age-related illness that is causing her pain.
Good Luck!!

There isn't a medication. Training may help but if it's temperament is aggressive then you most likely will not be able to change it. I'd strongly suggest taking control by training and punishment for misbehaving. Good luck

Usually when an older dog such as that becomes aggressive there isn't much can be done about it..Just keep it away from kids..A grownup can handle it with a good choker collar

well, the gnats like to eat fruit, so put all the fruit away and...that might do the trick... Have you tried that yet?
