depends on the model of the seat and the booster. five point harness is safer than a booster but not if the weight or hight limit is exceeded, boosters are also many times used improperly they cannot be used with only a lap belt they need the child to be wearing the shoulder strap to work correctly (it can't be behind the back of the child)
you should also check your state law for child seat requirements

My son has a seat that you can use as a 5 point harness or later when they are 4 and 40 pounds you can use it as a belt positioning booster. So it grows with him. Look into something like this. Most states require a car seat until they are 4 and 40 pounds. I don't know where you live but that is the general recommendation and in some places the law. So i would look for a seat like this, ours is made by Evenflow. Some states require the booster until 80 pounds but most states don't have a law after they turn 4.

A toddler booster seat should be fine. The ones with high back and 5 point harness are the safest. He needs to be out of the smaller car seat because if u were to get into an accident u could actually do more damage to him.

Check with you local PD or Highway Patrol for the age/weight requirements for you state. You might have to buy him a bigger car seat. CA is 6 years of age/60 lbs. His car seat goes up to 100 lbs and can eventually be used with the car seat. Honestly I want him in the harness as long as possible. I dont see how he can be safe using a seatbelt with a car/booster seat at such a young age.

NO! To move a child to a booster seat they must be at least 40lbs. It is not safe to have him in a booster. My son (almost 5) is in a forward/booster, you can leave them in the harness until 48 lbs then it is a booster seat. The straps of the harness should be at or above his shoulders and his ears should be bellow the top of the seat.

Look on the side or in the book that came with it.There should be weight limits and height limits. I know with Booster seats your kids has to 40lbs. I was just pulled over and had my car seats inspected and got all the information. They say even a couple pounds can make the difference in a accident.

go to babies r us and look at the seats. you can read the specifications for the height and weight of the child on the side of the boxes. each seat may have different size ranges, so there is no hard and fast rule. there are so many different car seats and boosters to choose from, so explore your options. most important is to make sure you buy one that is appropriate for his height and weight.

If you can't find a bigger car seat, start looking for a safe booster seat. It's not safe to cram him into a too-small car-seat.

I don't think there are laws about this, so you might not want to do what I'm gonna say. But I'd put him in a booster seat. Just my opinion, though. You might want to contact your local police or fire department to ask them. I am sure it varies from city to city. Hope I helped!

I think booster seats are for 45 and over. But I'm not sure you may want to ask his doctor he/she might know. Good luck and have fun.
