Well I naturally have dark brown hair, but I decided to let my mom put in highlights. But instead of highlights, I ended up a light brown!!! (she colored my whole head).
It looked fine until i started growing back hair and now the top is brown and the other half is light brown.
I want to die it back to the natural shade.
Will it work if the highlights were permanent?
Should I use a shade darker than my natural color?
What dye product do you prefer?

Please and thank you.

What salon should I go to in NY(Westchester County)?

i could just do it at home and only color the bottom half, so it comes out one even shade, but I don't know if that's going to be hard...

I think that a fine idea. Choose a shade as close to your natural hair color as posible. I recomend using Excellence by L'oreal it gives great color and covers grays 100%, and since you don't have greys (at least I hope you don't) it will cover the highlights too.

It will work just fine. Since you are going darker you have no fear of getting unusual colors. Just be sure to choose a shade that is as close to your natural color as possible. If you are undecided between two shades pick the darker of the two because haircoor can fade out over time.

If you try to do it at home again you will end up with different colors on your head. Cause your highlights will stay lighter than other parts no matter what you do. I suggest you to go to a hairdresser to take advices or let a professional do it for you! Maybe you will pay more than you could do it at home but at least you will have a nice hair. And remember hair matters a lot for your beauty.. You are worth it ;)

personally i would go to a drug store and bring a picture of yourself before you highlighted it, and get the closest color. its easy and i'd do loreal faria. plus it only costs 5 bucks
