Play groups with friends are always nice. I have 4 kids (ages 8,5,2 and 11 months). We do alot of pretend play. i get the oldest started on an idea and when they get into it i can spend some time with the baby or do the normal house work. this morning we turned my sons room into another planet ( just by sliding the bed over and having some blankets thrown over the furniture they could climb under). they decided they would all be a family of aliens. 2 hours later i called them for lunch and they were disapointed. Also once a week or so i make a nice big lunch and we head to the park for a picnic. you can also search the internet for low cost low mess summer arts and crafts.
good luck

send them to camp, or some type of day camp where they go and do crafts and stuff but still come home every day. Otherwise they'll probably want to hang out at your public pool (if your town has one) to stay cool and meet friends.

they could write in a journal as well as reading. It would probably kill some time and give you a rest.
