castor oil is not effective. my aunt did it and was up with diarrhea all night and she did not go into labor. it can cause severe dehydration and stress on the baby. go to a doctor of osteopathy (D.O.), a chiropractor, or a certified medical massage therapist. they can stimulate certain nerves that can induce labor.

Castor oil isn't very effective, but it still won't hurt anything. Like others have said, sex is your best bet. When I was induced with my son at 40 weeks, they had me stay over night before they gave me the Pitocin. The reason I had to stay over night was because they put something called Cervadel on my cervix to help me efface. The doctor told me that Cervadel is actually artificial semen. So have sex. But after your husband orgasms, stay laying down for 20 minutes or so with your hips up so that the semen can go to work. It sounds horrible, but that is the miracle of life, baby! Good luck!
p.s. I was medically induced and it was actually a great experience. There weren't any surprises and everything went smoothly. Just get that epidural and ride the ride!

If you're 38 weeks, you should really wait for the next two weeks to be over with before you think about inducing labor.
The best way to do it naturally is to have an orgasm. It stimulates the natural hormone and starts you into labor. Castor Oil is an old wives tale.

I would suggest you take this up with your Doctor because the act of inducing labor with Castor oil seems like an urban legend from my standpoint. Though I have heard that hot baths help. but I'm just a guy so what do i know. However, seriously take this up with your doctor because inducing labor on ones own does not sound safe.

OK...
A study came out last week proving that sex does NOT induce labor. Sorry. In fact, it can actually put labor OFF. I know, I know. Everyone knows someone who did it and it worked, but it's all anecdotal and coincidental. The scientific evidence says otherwise.
Castor oil is dangerous. Don't do it. Yeah, it's "just a natural laxative." Well, it can leave you weak and dehydrated just when you need the most strength. Plus, the nurses that post on Yahoo! Answers and my OB say it doesn't work. Again, coincidental and anecdotal.
Also, your due date is just an estimate. It can be off by two weeks in either direction. It's not smart to induce yourself, in any case, and frankly, a medical induction sucks, too. It's the baby's readiness that gets labor going, and your best chance of having a relatively quick, intervention-free birth with no complications and a healthy baby is to wait for nature to take its course. Really.
Talk to your doctor, PLEASE.

For my first son, I drank castor oil a day before my due date and the next day I had him! It is completely safe, and if you don't go into labor, you will just have the poops. Castor oil is just a natural laxative. Do a lot of walking and have sex! Drink it before bed and then take a walk. i drank it at like 8 pm. then i took a 10-20 minute walk with my husband and then went to bed. At 2 am i woke up with contractions and then i went back to sleep and went to the hospital at about 9 am! Had him 10 hours later. YOur body will tell you when its ready.

don't do the castor oil I heard it can be effective but the doc doesn't suggest this so should you try it I wouldn't. Sex is a good one, they say sperm has something in it and when it sits on the cerivx or something like that, also nipple sensation could also help. And a nice long walk. This can all help induce labor whcih is what my doc told me, with mine. And spicy food may help too but all I got was heartburn. Good luck.

You should be ok if you try induction yourself. But do not use castor oil. My wife induced labor on herself with our 3rd child. She laid in bed one night and pushed down as if she was already in labor. She would push and count to 10 and would wait several minutes and do it again. It took several hours of this but she actually started labor. Even her doctor said thats impossible.

Castor oil will not induce your labor!!! stop it with all the home remedies. If you REALLY want your labor induced, contact you OB/GYN. your guy can't even break you bag of water, I don't care how large he is. its a proven FACT!
