I hope not, because that pretty much describes me. I just don't choose to associate myself with the Christian "religion" because a lot of them have been acting like real idiots lately. They are more hypocritical then I am.

As a Christian I love to gain knowledge,as a Christian I also have to practice discernment and test what is put up to be true.Science is marvelous but always a little to quick to state it has a positive answer and is constantly revising itself. That does not help its credibility with me.Its like some one telling you something different every day and swearing it is true, but when you ask them about what they said yesterday they say well that was wrong and I have found new evidence.Where as the Bible is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. The laws of cleanliness are amazing. You should check them out.

The hypocrite is one who says one thing but acts in an opposite way.
There could be a number of reasons for the situation that you described. As an example I remember my days when I did not believe that God existed, but now that God has revealed His existance to me through answered prayers. This does not make me an athiest or a hypocrite.

I think I would need to know how you define what a Christian is.
Biblically, to be a Christian means to "believe that God exists and rewards those who earnestly seek Him". The way of life of a true "Christian" is supposed to be a reflection of how Jesus lived (Though by nature, God, He lived the life of a servant then willingly died to take the penalty for others sins).
To be Atheist means to believe that God does not exist. ALL atheists that I have talked to also believe that God is not loving. (I don't know if this is true across the board as I have only talked to 5 or 6.)
Anyway, these two beliefs or (world views) are mutually exclusive. Feel free to email me if you would like. Regards,
-Dave

A christian is a person that believes Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, and asks forgiveness, and repents of their sins, a christian believes the only way to the kingdom is through Jesus, a christian spreads the good word and is a witness, if a christian hangs around athiests, It is the word of the Lord that the christian should spread to them, to let them know that they do have eternal life through Jesus.

You didn't give much info, but going on assumptions that the christian is relating to the atheists more cuz the christian may find some atheists are kinder, gentler, fun and respectful to be around......then no, I would say the christian is NOT being a hypocrite.

Ah, a reasonable, open-minded being....I have sort of a similar problem myself; I do believe that Jesus was a great person with a message that was meant for everyone to hear, but I refuse to identify myself with those who wear the title 'Christian' and go around slamming anyone who isn't baaaaing along with them. I don't think Jesus meant for humanity to walk in mindless lockstep on "one true path", waving dusty tomes and bleating passages at "non-believers". You are not a hypocrite.

No how would that make him a hypocrite? by being friends and showing that you are there for them if they need a shoulder to cry on? I know that I can see where the atheist come from on R&S because I find the humor and fun in it. I think that legalism has taken ahold of the church and man and restricted us more than we really needed to. maybe atheist see more of the liberty we have but man has put words in God's mouth.

Lots of christians, I hope, believe in these things, although on Yahoo answers it seems like there are very few indeed...
I think it's amusing that you put "common sense" as an athiest thing...I don't disagree, but I think it's amusing.

I know what you mean because I used to feel the same way. I felt that way until I understood that I am to follow God and his word. In the world today we have been conditioned to believe that we should be accepting of all things ex. homosexuality, other religions, etc. I struggled so much with these issues. But know this that God is a just God and we can not understand all of his ways.
(
Than my eyes were opened and I saw that the word of God does not change to fit with our society.
Seek him by prayer and read his word. He will reveal truth to you and you will begin to see error in the atheists arguments. .
Actually Peter denied Jesus not Paul) post below
