Why or why not?

Your question is asked at all because gyms have become a meat market of the fit people and it's blatantly obvious. Those that NEED the exercise are made uncomfortable by exclusion. This is why, when I was fat, I thought gyms were evil places. I still think the concept is kind of sick. Why go to a gym when it's nice outside? Why PAY to work out on your own when you can work out at home and feel less ignored or even hated?

I never saw a fat person invited to play team sports. I never saw anyone approaching a fat person, but maybe they got ignored if they approached someone else.

The sad thing is, if they are going to lose the weight, then they need to exercise, yet the already punishing environment be then made even more punishing by the people there. That's why I don't like gyms at all.

I think they should because when they work out with others they can see the progress others are making. For example if there is one girl who comes everyday and stays for three and starts losing weight fast that would give the fat person enthusiasm to work harder. Then if there is another girl who only comes once a month and seems to be gaining more weight then this will show the fat person that they don't wont to end up like her.

Also if you go to a public gym you may learn better techniques from people who have been working out for years other then working out in your own home.

Not sure I understand this question. Why wouldn't they. That is the purpose of the gym. For people to get into or stay in shape. I do not believe that we should be limiting people form exercising or anything else based on physical appearance.

They can if they want to, if they don't have the necessary equipment home with them. They have just as much right to exercise at the gym as the skinny people do.

Well don't you think that is the point of the gym? I say good for them for wanting to get in shape and improve their health! Gym's aren't exclusive to beautiful people. B/c some of those beautiful people were once fat too!

(By the way, Please define "Fat". We cant all be super models)

Gyms are for people who are interested in being healthy, regardless of what they look like. I realize some gyms have become a social network or meat-market environment, but all shapes/sizes, etc should be welcome to work out.
