I found out it you are having problems with unpopped popcorn, put it in the freezer. I do not know why, but it seems to get it to popp right when we're having issues with it. for awhile like 4 to 6hrs.... my family usually puts a few in there and leaves it.... hope it helps.

My husband and I discovered this the hard way. We had some microwaveable butter popcorn, approximately for four months or so....we popped some one night and it tasted musty, and was stale. It was GROSS. I threw away all the other unpopped packages.

Most popcorn has an expiration date printed on the package!

the oil gets old, and makes the popcorn taste crappy.
