About 7-8 months this way the people can see you in all of your pregnancy glory but you still have enough energy to go to it yourself.

This is all a personal choice. In my family we usually have the baby shower about a month after the baby is born. My family is kind of spread all over and not everyone can get to see the baby in the hospital etc so it is a nice way for everyone to get to see the baby. Also most moms buy what they need for those first few weeks throughout their pregnancy and by the time the baby is a month old they know exactly what it will need and what sizes clothes and diapers will be most useful (like all my children were out of a size one diaper and newborn clothes by the time they were a month old so those sizes would have done us no good if we would have gotten a bunch of it before the baby was born)

If you really want to do it before the baby is born it is best to do it about a month before the mother is due. That way it is not too early. But not so late that the expecting mommy isn't going to want company or want to deal with the things. The last month can be even more emotional then the rest of the time and often the mommy doesn't want a "party" Also that way if the baby comes a week or two early it is not coming on the weekend of the shower.

The best time is after you 13-18 week checkup, when you find out the sex of the baby. If you dont want to know the sex of the baby, then I would still wait about your 5th or 6th month. You are at a high risk of miscarriage up until your 3rd-4th month, so its best to wait.

I had 4 baby showers while execting our son. Three of them were about a month before he was born and the 4th one was a month after his birth. The 4th was really nice, because I knew what I needed and didn't have and the guests knew what sex to buy for.

Definitely before the due date but not too soon before that date. Also knowing the sex of the baby is always a good and helpful thing.

Anytime before the baby is born. If you want specific things, wait till you know the sex of the baby.

rule of thumb has been about 2 months prior to delivery, that way to ensure lower risk for miscarriage, know the sex if thats a variable and to make sure she has everything ready in the case that the mom delivers early.
